Brian Dawkins. Dwight Clark. Michael Dean Perry. William. Perry. Jeff Bostic They were pretty good off the top of my head.

Ford and Spiller have potential to be pretty good.

They have a top 10 recruiting class just about every year. With such blue chip players recruited there, you'd think NFL rosters would be littered with Tigers...not the case. Right now they are after the best DE in the country. If he lands in Clemson, probably won't be a top 10 pick.

Edit: most of those players were form the '80's, the one decade where Clemson WAS elite. Sadly, most of their fan base is forever trapped in the 'glory years' and can't get over the fact they have been above average-to-good since then...hardly more than that.

I don't think how good Clowney will be entering the NFL will be that heavily influenced by whether or not he chooses Clemson over SC or Bama.

Good college players don't always = good NFL players. Same reason great NFL players aren't always great college players. I haven't been a fan of most Clemson guys coming into the pros recently (last 10-15 yrs). I think Spiller will be good and Bowers looks much better coming out than Gaines (never got his hype). Bowers will be an every down DE at the next level and will be his rookie year imo.

Agreed. Spiller is probably the best player to come out of Clemson in a long, LONG, time. Uless he is moved from Buffalo, I'm not sure how good of a professional career he actully will have. How about Rod Gardner? B-U-S-T!!!!!

I live in the area and have to hear about how great this team is going to be every season only to be steeped in mediocracy.

IMO, there are a lot of similarities between being a Panther and Clemson fan. Under Fox there were clearly issues that began on the sidelines w/ coaching. As far as talent, Clemson has had that.......in some recent seasons I think many missed exactly how talented they were b/c of coaching.

as far as Clemson, outside of Spiller, they are team imo you look at defensively only in the draft (and have been for some time).

What exactly did Bowers do before this past year? I think Robert Quinn will be a better DE in the league. Once the combine starts and Quinn dominates everything, he will climb the boards quick (may not be number 1, but better than Bowers). Fairley fits a bigger need right now.

First things first before this year cam newton and Fairley did nothing as well...Thing is Cam Newton has horrible NFL mechanics...Bowers is 6ft 5 276 lbs and runs a 4.4 flat...You cant teach that, and thats what you gotta look for in a number 1 pick. Lets not forget the Texans took Mario Willaims (one good year of college) over VY and Bush...Id give the nod to the Texans on that pick.

I agree with the op 100%. I mean think about it. With either of those two we would have the most dominant defense in the NFL... that will still be rank around 25th or lower because they will be on the field 70% of the time due to the fact our offense can't stay on the field. I mean we went 2-14 last year with a top ten defense per possesion even with several injuries to key players so let's build up that defense because that was clearly the problem. With that dominant defense who knows? Maybe we can improve to 3-13 next year!!!!! Yay!!!!!

(shaking head)

Yea because Green or newton are gonna fix everything right? NEWTON WILL BE A SECOND ROUND PICK

Fairley is not as good as a prospect as Gerald McCoy was last year. McCoy was exceptional at playing the run for a UT. No pun intended but I like my top pick to be a Jack of All Trades... he should be at least good at everything to warrant that type of pick, IMO.

I remember when there was this Wide Receiver was supposed to be the 2nd Best WR behind Calvin Johnson. He was productive his entire career and a can't miss WR. He played at a big time school and had the size and hands to be a dynamic WR....

Dwayne Jarrett.

Green has just as much opportunity to be a BUST as Fairley.

    • After the Chiefs game a 6'5 X would really help in the Red zone. I would also love to add Slayton in FA
    • But again, you can restock a defense through free agency much easier than offensive skill positions. Spend all our cap space on defense, take a true elite prospect who also happens to fit a position of need in T-Mac, and then use the rest of our picks on defense. Again, every season there’s a smattering of great DL, LB, and DB options in free agency, a Top 10 WR never hits free agency, ever.  The only way you get one is through the draft or giving up 1st round picks in a trade for one. If he’s there when we’re on the clock, he has to be the pick, he’s just that good.
    • It must be an early Christmas for JT O'Sullivan having Thielen back so he could put a coal in Thielen's stocking every chance he gets.  Honestly, the biggest surprise is not so much the anticipation. There were those moments here and there last year as well. It's that even that one positive quality he had seemingly vanished his first two games to where it looked like it was all but over, only for it to start coming back some until you get exclamation points all over this game film. And some of those throws were under a lot of duress, something I feel is something new. Finally, those deeper shots are starting to land. Not all of them, but enough that defenses may have to start respecting them. No guarantees whether this will end up as more of anomaly but I certainly hope it isn't. The Green Bay game was a sampler of what BY could be. Against KC, we got a meal. If we could start getting these meals regularly, we might actually have something to work with here.
