Matt Maiocco has us taking Newton # 1 overall

all I'm saying is projected stats are meaningless. Vick had a great year. you can't compare Newton to Vick just because they're phenomenal athletes. Vick has been in the league nearly a decade, and just because he was out for a couple years doesn't mean he just forgets everything he learned before that.

and as for your comment on Kolb, I completely agree. Kolb is not a good quarterback and is the definition of "captain checkdown". if we gave up anything more than a 5th rounder for him I'll be very pissed. he is one of the most over hyped "trading chips" I've ever seen.

it's funny that people are still considering pike as somene we would have any interest in seeing what he has. he's a wasted pick. move on to someone with more potential.

it's not so bad that we wasted a 6th rounder on the guy...pretty insignificant in the scheme of things. it would be a shame to waste more time on him rather than pick up someone that has a bit more potential.

true that our coaching staff is going to have to work with young guys, but why not get him the best couple guys possible?

you say "people" when in reality there are probably only a handful of people that think he's anything more than a career backup.

people as in "some people" rather than "all people". that was pretty obvious.

still, why would we spend extra time and effort into someone like that?

Chris Leak

If Chris Leak were 6'6 instead of 5'11 he would be in the NFL. Great passer. Plus he didn't run a 4.5 40.

And although the SEC wasn't as strong as it has been in the past last year it was still the best conference in all of college football IMO.

eh every team has a backup guy they keep around. wouldn't surprise me if Pike is sent to the practice squad this year.

Now we're getting into more than just being a winner and playing in the SEC.

Also, if the SEC had to play anyone other than the Big 10 in bowl games it might shed some light on that conference.

but why keep someone around that doesn't have a real shot at being a starter? i just don't understand that logic.

screw trying to improve your backup and get someone in here who actually has a chance to start. pike is a waste of time. there are a lot of FAs that would be a whole lot more worth the effort and who could actually compete for the starting job.

you keep pike around hoping that he someday becomes a decent starter and you are only limiting the team.

get real long term competition in here. get the best of whatever scrap there is lying around and hope that one of them can turn into something good.

I totally agree with the second half of that post. Big Ten is always overrated.
