Crazy coaching rumors

Agreed. I'm sure he has some affinity for the place after his coaching time there and he's a country boy at heart... which isn't really the N'Awlins vibe, from what I know

That's what I was thinking. Some people just don't fit in certain cultural situations, and maybe he didn't like the vibe he was getting from his surroundings in New Orleans. But, he knows Dallas, he's spent time there, and maybe going back there for ESPN during the week leading up to the Super Bowl made him decide he wanted to return "home".

http://www.neworleans.com/sports/saints/saints-news/559118-saints-coach-sean-payton-family-move-to-westlake-subdivision.html

According to a story by Ed Werder of ESPN.com, Payton estimates that flying on a private plane is 90 minutes door to door from his office at the Saints complex to the family's new home, which he believes allows him to remain committed to the Saints while moving his family to the area where he and Beth intend to eventually retire.

Seems a little premature to settle the family into his retirement home.

In response to a load of fan complaints - and an accusatory column from a Saints beat reporter - Payton has released a statement. The statement as released makes some thing that Payton plans to finish out his current contract (two more years) then retire.

In that context, the move would actually make some sense.

hmm, interesting, though I would be surprised if he was out of the business entirely in two years...

Dear God I would pay money to get Payton the hell out of New Orleans...

Maybe. It depends on how you interpret what he said.

Copied from PFT...

My job is to coach this team. And I’m under contract for two more years coaching this team. And I know this, I hope when I’m finished coaching, this is my last spot coaching. And honestly, I don’t see myself coaching 10, 15 more years. You know, my son is dying for me to be at practice, and my daughter is dying for me to be at more of her events. It’s hard to explain the pull that this job and this career has. We knew going in and I knew going in how demanding it can be. And when you win a Super Bowl those demands can get even tougher.

He wouldn't be the first guy to get a ring and then say "You know what? I'm good. Think I'll just relax now."

Worth noting that Gregg Williams turned down a couple of opportunities to interview elsewhere this offseason, including possible head coaching opportunities.

If you put your tinfoil hat on, you could theorize that maybe Williams knows he'll be the next Saints head coach in two years or so.

I'd rather soundly defeat him a few times first.

Wouldn't mind seeing Williams go, and not because he's effective, but because he's a dirty POS.

That may be, but the thing you also need to consider is that Sean Payton is the play caller for the Saints, and Drew Brees is 32 years old. That's not exactly the prime of his career.

It's entirely possible that if Payton retires in 2 years that Bree could follow him into the sunset since he will be 34 years old. Whether Williams is a good defensive mind or not, he wont be able to do much with that offense of theirs if Payton and Brees are both gone.
