I wouldnt be surprised if in three years Gabbert and Von Miller turn out to be the best players in this draft class and we have a legitimate reason for passing on both of them. Also, out of maybe the top 8 or 9 players, I have a hard time picking out a Vernon Gholston, which is a good thing.

Technically, you don't have to trade down - you could just let the time expire and the way the rules work the next team in line would be on the clock and you would fall in behind them... I'm sure the Panthers would take allot of heat for doing this, but it is a way to get out of having to choose # 1 overall. I remember analysts discussing the possibility of this a few years back and there was no clear # 1 talent in the draft class.

True. Don't see any real benefit to it though.

You wouldn't be getting any additional compensation, but if there was a player you liked but didn't want to reach for him at the # 1 overall pick, you could just let yourself slide down the board into you get to a spot where you are comfortable taking him.

It might also be easier to trade the pick on the fly like that, assuming the rules allow you to trade the pick under those circumstances.

If the rookie pay scale is in place there is not need. If there is not one then hell lets just not pick for a few spots LOL.

i love people who think trading down is just some magical lever they can pull to drenched in 2nd round picks like slime from you can't do that on television.

Wouldn't be too bad if they gave opinions on how to trade down. Which teams they see wanting to trade up. Otherwise it just sounds as generic as saying "we have to draft someone".

I don't understand why it is popular logic to trade a pick where you have the best opportunity to get elite talent for the opportunity to add serviceable depth at other positions. I think we have depth at a lot of positions, we are just lacking the elite talent needed to become better than average. It is more likely that we will trade up into the earlier rounds either by packaging multiple late round picks or future picks.

Fairley is a one trick pony, but the one trick he has is extremely good. That said, you have to be an all-around great prospect to be the #1 overall pick. Fairley does not warrant that.

Yep agree , one good game in his career and he has to our #1 pick...yay

Forget others guys that have been doing all through their careers...

Let's see: he maintains his gaps...check, disciplined on backside contain...check, wraps up tackles...check, explodes off the LOS...check, strings plays to the sidelines...check, constantly in opposition's backfield...check, ability to shed blockers...check and lastly, watches QBs eyes to bat down passes...check. All this just in high school!!!

Damn...y'all are right, Fairley's a one trick pony if I've ever seen one.
