I always wondered if Favre hadn't retired after the 2007 season if he'd still be a Packer now. I think they could have won the SB w/ him in 2008 or 2009, then he would have retired, and Rodgers takes over, maybe they win again. idk. There are a couple of ways this could have played out.

In '08, the Packers were a young team led by a young QB who was still learning the ropes....two years later he won the Superbowl. I think he needed that learning year to gel with the team. Having Favre around would have just delayed it, or maybe even gotten McCarthy fired...

but no, I thought with the way he left that they should have moved on from Favre.

I thought it was the right choice. Favre was old, grumpy, and becoming a super diva. Aaron Rodgers had already sat on the bench for 3 years, and if you let Favre return, then Rodgers will most definitely demand a trade or at least refuse to sign a long term deal. I was saying then that you can't hitch your wagon to an old Brett Favre for one or two more years when it's going to cost you a chance at 10 or 15 with Aaron Rodgers.

Packers gave Favre a chance to decide what he wanted to do. when he chose to retire, the Packers decided that even if Favre changed his mind AGAIN, it's Rodgers football team..

I thought it was a smart move then, and has proven to be a smart move now..

none of that has to do with Rodgers talent so much as it did with having a unified team and moving on from Favre's constant flip-flopping.. after the 3rd retirement, it was time to move on..
