I think Jimmy starts. From what I hear from teammates he seems to be taking 2010 as a big fat steaming learning experience. That may be the upside to his huge ego, won't give up easily.

I totally agree with your speculation. ;)

I'll take it a step further and say that I think he'll surprise a lot of people with how much better he looks.

I think both Clausen and Moore will be given a chance to show that last year was an aberration.

(not about to try and predict whether or not either one succeeds)

I don't think Moore is on the team, for the reasons I gave Dimbee. If you sign a vet, then you're carrying four QBs. Pike and Clausen are likely to stay around. That leaves Moore and your vet. Who's the odd man out there?

If that foursome goes to camp, I have a feeling it could be Pike. Then you go into the season with a lineup mix of "older veteran / middle veteran / young prospect".

All depends on who performs, of course.

What has Pike done to deserve such high regard, Cyberjag?

He's tall and holds a clipboard really well! :)

He's also cheap and has potential, and I'm guessing that he would get taken off the practice squad if we stashed him there. He's also cheap. And he doesn't cost a lot...

I guess in thinking on it again, we're not necessarily looking at the same situation now. I believe he would be the third guy if we were in 2009, but who knows what the salary cap will be now? I guess it depends on whether Rivera's staff thinks he has potential to be better than Moore.

Not Cyberjag, but I don't really want to base my evaluation of Tony Pike (or Clausen or Moore for that matter) on the idea that last season under Rip Scherer and a lame duck John Fox is a fair and accurate test of their abilities.

Pike will still be practice squad eligible this season, and might not draw much interest.

I think Pike likely goes to the practice squad. I think we keep Clausen and bring in two QBs (one may be Moore). I fully believe Rivera just has an open competition and the best QB starts in 2011.

In two years, I doubt we have Pike, Clausen, or Moore on the roster. Recent history has proven that unless a new HC inherits as Superbowl QB he guts the QB roster in a 2 year window and finds himself a QB.

I'm not completely ruling out Carson Palmer. The Zampese connection makes it at least conceivable.

I don't really believe it'll happen (nor do I heavily favor it) but I'm keeping it in the back of my mind.

At some point, Rivera's gonna want his own "Philip Rivers". Don't think we'll get that this season, but I doubt he's willing to wait beyond one season to find "that guy".

I'm surprised more haven't talked about Drew Stanton as a poteniel FA and starter for the Panthers. I could really see him coming in like Delhome did and win the starting spot. Something about him that I like. Pure gut feeling on my part but I think he could be a good QB in a Coryell system. I could see Clausen, Voleck, Stanton and Pike on the roster going into camp.

And for the record, I completely agree with Jag and Scot that we will be running a Coryell system, albeit probably a run heavy Coryell system, still a Coryell system.
