Robert Cook, part of the famous foursome that never has missed attending a Super Bowl game in 44 years, was in the hospital Saturday and will be unable to attend Sunday's game, his wife told The Dallas Morning News.

Cook, 79, and his three buddies of the "Never Miss a Super Bowl Club" gained fame for their annual tradition when it was featured in a TV commercial leading up to Super Bowl XLV.

"He's depressed," said Cook's wife, Sarah, who declined the say why her husband is hospitalized. "This is sad for him. ... He doesn't want to be there,"referring to the Wisconsin hospital her husband's been in since Thursday.

Eventually you know it had to happen, but it sux.

I was talking to some random person tonight and they said "I'm most likely going to miss the Superbowl.. my team isn't in it and I just can't get into it the same...." here's the kicker, "But I love football.. I mean, I have the NFL Sunday Ticket.."

I love how people throw out the Sunday ticket like that qualifies them as a "football enthusiast"..

if you can't watch the Packers -vs- Steelers, then you aren't a football fan. this game is liable to be one of the best we've ever seen due to how tough both of these teams are..

If you don't watch this game with all of your attention focused on the TV screen, then I doubt your fanhood..

unless you're in the hospital.. ;)

Yea... Sunday Ticket can just mean you only want to watch one team play and don't really care about the rest of the NFL, or other games. Hence not a true NFL fan, Just a team "X" fan.

who cares if you've been to the SB every year honestly

yea pretty stupid tradition, and expensive to. You could travel to an exotic country with that money every year and do it withe the family or loved ones and create wonderful memories.

I loved the one that was said "yea... I missed weddings, births, graduations but not a SB!, hahaha" yea won't be so funny on your death bed when you realize that is what your leaving with, kind of like the one guys is finding out now, no surprise he is depressed. SB isn't so important when death puts your mind in perspective, it just s shame it takes that much effort to get you to notice.

I love football as much as the next guy but obviously that's more than love, that's an obsession and worse, a very flawed perception of what is important. How the hell could you send that kind of message to your family, that it is more important to them?

And Visa, the NFL embraces it, now that is what is truly sad but very smart business moves!

it's not about anyone caring if they've went to a SB every year (other than Visa wanting an excuse to make a commercial), if that's what they do, then that's what they do..

if someone wants to make that a tradition and has money to blow, then so be it.. I'm sure they can go travel to an exotic country the week after..
