It could be possible that there are more but from this list who do you guys see the Panthers picking up? A lot of people are against taking Fairley and taking either Green or Peterson #1 and upgrading DT through FA.

Desmond Bryant (UFA) - Oakland

Tim Bulman (UFA) - Houston

Shaun Cody (UFA) - Houston

Barry Cofield (UFA) - NY Giants

Ron Edwards (UFA) - Kansas City

Fred Evans (UFA) - Minnesota

Jonathan Fanene (UFA) - Cincinnati

Ronald Fields (UFA) - Denver

Andre Fluellen (RFA) - Detroit

Eric Foster (RFA) - Indianapolis

Aubrayo Franklin (UFA) - San Francisco

Gary Gibson (UFA) - St. Louis

Kedric Golston (UFA) - Washington

John Henderson UFA) - Oakland

Chris Hovan (UFA) - St. Louis

Antonio Johnson (UFA) - Indianapolis

Ed Johnson (RFA) - Carolina

Tank Johnson (UFA) - Cincinnati

Derek Landri (UFA) - Carolina

Damione Lewis (UFA) - Houston

Trey Lewis (RFA) - Atlanta

John McCargo (UFA) - Buffalo

Tony McDaniel (UFA) - Miami

Brandon Mebane (UFA) - Seattle

Daniel Muir (UFA) - Indianapolis

Darryl Richard (RFA) - New England

Bryan Robinson (UFA) - Arizona

Clifton Ryan (UFA) - St. Louis

Junior Siavii (UFA) - Seattle

Shaun Smith (UFA) - Kansas City

Craig Terrill (UFA) - Seattle

Marcus Thomas (UFA) - Denver

Kevin Vickerson (UFA) - Denver

Gerard Warren (UFA) - New England

Gabe Watson (UFA) - Arizona

Pat Williams (UFA) - Minnesota

those alone would give us a solid D Line< Henderson would be the best pick up we could make this year

This... and his position coach at Northwestern is on our staff now.

Really, this "his position coach from ________" is a bit ridiculous. Just because Tom Brady's QB coach from HS now works at H&R Block doesn't mean that he is gonna retire and start doing taxes.

OK Coefield is the target believe that. Us as Avg Joe Smoe armchair GM's know he is the guy, our staff know it too. Coefield and a 3rd round draft pick and the interior DLINE is FIXED. Leaves us open to take the actual BPA at the top pick. That said i am still hoping we can make an unprecedented trade down to gain that 2nd and more. I was one of the few hoping for a trade down when we had LUCK in our sights. Fact is we need to upgrade three or more positions in FA and the draft and we are limited by a "small market" and deficiency of picks.

We haven't signed a big name FA in years, I'm not getting my hopes up. Not to mention we have to extend Beason, resign Charles Johnson, James Anderson, Kalil, Thomas Davis and maybe DWill.

See i think Dwill and TD are gonna be considered expendable. Hard to imagine that but it is not like we don't have other talent at OLB and RB.

Giants will be hard pressed to resign Cofield.. He is my #1 choice and highly doubt Giants can go anywhere close to a bidding war..

Mebane would be my 2nd choice, he's an absolute beast.. it'll be interesting to see how easy he is to pull out of Seattle though. Question really comes down to would he rather play for Rivera or Pete Carroll? I think we'll be able to start asking that question more and more and coming up with Rivera as a reasonable answer.. Also, I'm not sure where Pete Carroll's head is at. if he has a brain at all, he'll throw money at Mebane.. but still, that might not be something on the top of his list. regardless, we have money to see how bad Seattle wants Mebane around.. at least drive the price up a bit if we have to..

If we can sign either of those, I wouldn't stop there.. Go after Abrayo Franklin and Gabe Watson.. Franklin is 29, and up there.. but a solid #2. same could apply to Gabe Watson, he's likely to lose his gig to a draft pick from last year.. he's had weight issues, but he dropped 30lbs before this past season started.. now weighing around 330..

then, re-sign Derek Landri.. he played well last year and would only be expected as a reliever.. we then could draft a 3rd round DT (if one is available), and coach him up without expecting much his first 2 years..

This would be my 1st choice to address the DT position... what the Panthers will do is yet to be seen..

Cofield - I could see him hitting the market, but it's far from a sure thing.

Mebane - I seriously doubt he'll be available. I believe he will most likely end up staying in Seattle.

Franklin - Good chance he gets franchised again, but with a new coach you never know.

Watson - Don't want him. Motivation was a question when he came out of college, and motivation is a question now. He has the talent to be a starter, but isn't willing to do what it takes to make it happen. Size doesn't mean everything.

See, this is my biggest concern about counting on FA to fill our need at DT. There is no guarantee that any of these guys will even be available in FA, much less agree to sign here.

There are quite a few teams out there looking to upgrade their DT position. So there will be a lot of competition for any of the good DT's that hit the market. So even if a Cofield is available, how do you know that Denver, or some other DT needy team won't get him? And lets say we do get him, we still need a 2nd DT, and nobody that makes it to the 3rd round will be someone you can bank on being able to start as a rookie.

The sad thing is that Landri was our best DT last year, but he is best suited for a back-up/rotational role. And he's not even under contract. So not only do we not have any starting DT's on the team, we don't even have any legitimate backups under contract. We are just too weak in this area to make the assumption that we can simply pick up what we need in FA.

Landri is best suited for a backup roll?

I don't know about that. I think if you get the right DT next to him, that Landri can be very good. Love his motor, and he gets into the back field quickly.

Of course, I'm not saying he HAS to remain our starter, but I also think it would take some seriously stiff competition to unseat him.

Cofield will hit Free Agency like a slip and slide... Giants were the highest spending Franchise on the DLine last year, spending $33,973,330mil..

Franklin isn't meant to be the main cog in our DLine, but will be suitable for the right price. they tagged him last year, and if they do it again, he'll likely be pissed enough to cause problems. I'm not so sure they want that, and he'll be worth bringing in at the right price..

as for anyone else, it's worth checking out... Mebane is really the only unsure DT FA that I wouldn't say is totally available. but he is a FA, and there are reasons to think we could pull him away from Seattle...

so with that said, I feel pretty good about going after FA DT's....

I think we need to re-sign Landri too
