Marty Hurney is a terrible GM

My understanding is that they could have worked out a deal up until June 2nd. After that the team would have to wait until February to work out a new deal. Some of that is on Hurney but in all honesty I don't think they are going to have a problem signing Gross as he has said publicly that he wants to stay in Carolina.

As for the Peppers situation, it caught everyone off guard. IMO Peppers and his agent did this on purpose once they saw Gross get franshised last season and it was a dirty move. The fact that money doesn't seem to be an issue says a lot.

It's till July 15th, and after that the tender for one year is that contract. Your also right that the team and player can't negotiate a contract during the season.

You get lucky sometimes. Even Matt Millen had his successes. Drafted MEGATRON for example.

Hurney's a good GM, but for the record, he's not the cap guy. There is a guy who does nothing but manage the salary cap for the Panthers...I think his name is Rob Rodgers.

Actually...

some other teams would probably let Gross loose because they already have his replacement behind him. That's how they save money.

Panthers need Gross because they don't have a younger option to go for (and it's NOT Omiyale)
