RB coach coming Friday?

Do these guys have experience in Coryell offensive systems though? That's been a common factor with everyone we've hired so far.

Researched the RB Coach at Miami when Chud was there. That was a no-go.

How about the overlap of Clay Helton's father, Kim. He's bounced around the pros and college. The key is the younger Helton played for his father in the collegiate ranks. So the theory is, he would embody his dad's philosophy.

See if there is any overlap in the elder Helton to the Coryell coaching tree. If so, there would be a bunch of dots connected.

I'll see what I can find.

OSU RB...JaQuizz Rodgers...goes by Quizz. He played under Davis at OSU and had great seasons despite being one of the only weapons on the team, along with his older brother (both in this draft). He was very undersized but ended up having a Heisman run one year.

Saw OSU a couple of times...Quizz was sick.

D-Will's college position coach, Jeep Hunter...mark it down.

Would love to see Jeep here. I went to High School with him at East Lincoln High School in the 80's, He is about two years older than me.....his younger brother graduated with me in 86 from ELHS.

Ran the background on Hunter, Helton and Helton's father. Can't find any definite correlation with Coryell systems.

It's possible I could have missed something. Also possible they could hire someone without that experience, but they haven't so far.

I found myself wondering if that contributed to Skipper not being hired. He did have experience in a Coryell system though (under Dan Henning with the Panthers) but he had more experience outside of it and might have preferred other options (still ultimately think it was the Fox connection that really did it, though).

I'm going with the 'pacify D-Will' school of thought here and keep him in a Panther's uniform.

Hope so.....maybe I'll have an "in" with the coaching staff now:D Jeep and I were pretty good friends in high school....more so with his little brother, but also with Jeep.

Agreed on Skipper, the tightness with Fox and his offensive tendencies would be too hard to re-train.

As far as the RB search, I was thinking about the Coryell connections or the lack there-of. Does a RB coach have to be versed the "Air Coryell" offense to land this job? I can see the OC and recievers...to a certain degree the line coach, but the backs? I'm not not sure it has to be someone with direct connections to this system.

Philosophically speaking, you could argue either way.

Practically speaking, every single offensive coach hired has at some point worked directly with either Norv Turner or Ernie Zampese except Fred Graves, and he worked under Chudzinski.

I'm thinking when Rivera was talking about how everyone he hired had to be onboard with the philosophy, this is what he was talking about.

Of course, the RB Coach could be an exception, but I'm not expecting it to be based on what we've seen so far.

Personally, I think Helton's experience with tutoring numerous offensive positions, and especially contributing to the success of D-Will, will be held in higher regards than a particular fit to a system... Chud is going to be running that, and our RB coach will be more "hands off"...

Depends on Rivera, I suppose.

Again, I can't really say with absolute certainty that a direct Coryell connection is required, but everyone hired so far does and Rivera alluded to it on radio, so it's reasonable.
