DeAngelo Williams

I'm thinking we'll franchise tag Kalil and the Bears will offer DWill an $11 million a year contract and he'll sign there. ;)

Seriously I doubt either happens. Kalil is worth top center money but not top left tackle money which is what we have to pay with a tag. Something on the order of 11 million for one year.

As for Williams, if he made 11 million a year, he would be the highest paid running back in the game by over 3 million a year. No one would pay him that and with Chicago already having Forte, they wouldn't pay Williams close to that.

He will likely sign a 6 year deal for something like 36 million. Probably won't make it 6 years so we would only have to pay a portion of that in the long run.

6 year $36 mill would be a good deal for the Panthers. A team like the Patriots would be stupid not to outbid that and offer a chance at winning.

I know it may sound like I'm wishing Willaims out the door but I just don't know if it is realistic to keep him.

Not resigning D.Will would be a stupid move on behalf of the organization. 1st getting rid of fan favorites isn't a good idea to begin with. 2nd like many have said he is a great player and also a great person off the field. And isn't that they type of player Mr.Richardson keeps talking about he wants us to have??

3rd. Our F.O keeps talking about how we need to build through the draft, now that's what we have done with him and we got lucky to get such a badass .. and it seems like we would go against our strategy if we just let him go.

He's such a good dude, spent some time around him at the private events he hosts for the doubletrouble3428.com club and practice and he treats fans great... he's on that site just about every Thursday night chatting with fans, etc.

One of the regulars in that doubletrouble3428.com club was telling me he was out at the mall one day and someone came up and jumped on his back... turned out to be DeAngelo Williams, can you imagine another NFL player interacting with a fan like that?

After Jordan Gross's kickball tournament, a bunch of folks were standing around and DeAngelo invited them over to Dan Morgan's place for Pizza, it was 20 people or so and he picked up the check.

At this point DeAngelo recognizes me from the events he stages and from hanging at practice and he says "Big Dave!" every time he walks by me on way out of practice and gives me a high-five. He's doesn't have to do stuff like that but he does anyways because he's genuinley a good guy and he appreciates us Panthers fans.

We're really lucky to have guys like him and Beason who are great players AND treat us fans so well. It's impossible for me to have an unbiased opinion about DeAngelo coming back after getting to know him, I don't care what it costs or who else we have at HB - I want to see him retire a Panther.

catman72 I don't know what I would do without your stories. And I want him to be a Panther for life too

I have a feeling Williams would stay for a fair-market contract, even without the tag.

Agree, he seems to be pretty happy here and the last time he was on chat (a week ago tonight) he said he was told by JR that he would have to wait until after the new CBA to discuss a contract extension, so it sounds like he's focused on staying - not on hitting the market.
