Quick question...in the event of a lock-out eliminating an entire season, do players who are on the final year of their contract go into free agency or their final season in the next year?

For instance, a player on a four year contract who has played for three years before a lock-out has only played three full seasons. Is a contract by seasons played or a specific time limit?
