Jaws: "I wouldn't give up on Jimmy"

Everyone that's complaining about Jaws blaming the D needs to remember that all of the expectations that were put on Clausen were put there because of our A) good running game, B) good oline, and C) good defense. (And Jaws did point out all of these elements as being part of the problem, not just the underachieving defense.)

None of those three parts played as good as everyone thought they would before the season, which is basically all Jaws is saying.

yes, but for the majority of Clausen's starts he had a top tier running game.

depends how you define giving up, anyway. you don't cut him right now. you bring some competition in to camp. make him earn his spot... wherever that ends up being.

tell him he's got a clean slate. nothing last year matters. this year is a new year. it's his year to win the starting job. but it won't be easy. you bring in talent to compete with him, either through FA, trades, or the draft.

see what he can do. if he manages to impress you, good. then you keep him. maybe you even start him. if he doesn't, you stick him as a backup and hope he learns. but you don't ever pass on another QB again thinking he'll be the guy.

Jaws at least has a knowledge of the game the likes of which a guy like Steve Young, an avid Panther Hater, will never attain. Weather we agree with Jawarski or disagree at least he explains his reasons and does have a in depth perspective of the QB position. No national analysis is going to have the depth of understanding for a team equal to the local fan base. However instead of blasting off a sound bite like Steve Young does, Jaws give intellectual responses in discussions.

The only thing Jaws is good for is evaluating QBs. If he says that there is still something in Jimmy, ok then I will give the kid the benefit of the doubt.

However, he should talk about no other parts of teams. He knows nothing about defense, the fact that we have hired aggressive coaches and an adopted philosophy, nor does he know what Rivera really is about as a head coach yet cuz no one does.

Stick to what you know Jaws. The rest is just reckless blathering.

Welp, this may be the worst article I've read in quite awhile... He was pretty much wrong on all counts, and his description of what Rivera is planning to do with the offense pretty much contradicts what he is saying he's gonna do.

And Jimmy sucked at the dinking and dunking, and often he even got sacked when he got protection.

I think Jaws is right. He said that if Jimmy was the quarterback, we would focus on the defense concentrate on the running game and let him be a game manager. He didn't say that Jimmy was the best guy for this offense and didn't discuss free agents. As for the league being dink and dunk, he is right. Two of the highest powered offenses, New England and New Orleans dink and dunk their way down the field all day. I think Clausen while no Brady or Brees, would be better in a system like that. Don't know how he'll do in Chud's system or how much the offense will be tailored around him. Certainly if Clausen is the guy, having a great defense and powerful running game would keep him from having to put the team on his back. So far that hasn't happened and I suspect it would be great if it wasn't expected.

Sure wouldn't mind a free agent who could run the whole offense and start. Just don't know who that is at this point.
