Something to think about (QB option)

Being realistic, my first choice for QB next season would be Gerrard but I'm not sure a deal can get done considering the CBA issues and the probablity of a very late and short FA/Trading period.f

Travaris Jackson is another interesting option but again the lack of a CBA and the fact that FA might not start until September makes this an unlikely senerio.

Basicly, the Panthers are left with two options. Give Clausen, Moore and Pike the new playbook and hope they look at and practice it during the work stopage. Thus going with one of the three as the starter in 2011. Or sign someone who would already know the system. QB associated with Chud and logically available would be Volek and Anderson.

Not too many people are going to like those options but thats what we have to work with unless a new CBA gets done soon. Honestly, at this point it either needs to get done before March 6th or no season at all is my take on it. With a entirely new staff, the 2011 season will become training camp and preseason games for the Panthers. As fans we really should start looking at who is coming out in 2012. Those are the players we will probably really be eyeing for rebuilding the team.

If the Bengals swapped picks with us and gave us Palmer, the Bengals would be the loser of that trade. What draft problems can't they solve with their current pick? There are great defensive players in this draft and they will be available with their current pick.

In any case, as others have said before, Palmer hasn't been the same since that injury. (2005 playoffs) I don't expect us to get a franchise qb this year, either through free agency nor the draft. (Unless we pick perhaps Colin Kaepernick in the third, even then he wouldn't be starting right away.) So let's resign Matt Moore to a reasonable price and sign Marc Bulger. Matt Moore shown he can be as good as Delhomme in his prime, if not better. A lot of those interceptions he had against the Giants were on dumb play calling. Plus he's proven that he can get the ball to Smitty, that will always qualify you to have a roster spot at QB on this team. (Whether as starter or a back-up.)

I don't really think that'd be enough incentive for them to trade.

With that said, we are talking about the Bengals... :sosp:

Gabbert seems like a Palmer clone. (At least in size) If he had a great combine, pro day, and promised to take his rookie contract bonus money and purchase Smitty a new house, maybe the Panthers would consider him as an option.:D

I think all in all, Palmer is a good QB, if the Bengals did want to swap picks and package him in that deal, of course we got to take it.
