What in the world? (Cardinals DC)

Or here is a scenario:

Why not bring him in as a LBs coach and once Fox's contract runs out, we can name him our next head coach and maybe make him our Assistant Head Coach for now?

The only thing is that Skipper already is our Assistant Head Coach so don't know...

He's gotten head coach speculation before, but I wouldn't imagine him rising higher than DC here, not at this point anyway.

Cardinals want to run a 3-4, Pendergast likes to run a 4-3. Cardinals blew allot of leads late in games last season, including the Superbowl. Look at the Cowboys, 49ers, Eagles and Steeler games and you will get the idea.

How can they run a 3-4 ?

They don;t have the players.

Strange how more and more teams are switching to 3-4 next season

How is this such a surprise? Cards D was awful for most of the season and then had the good fortune of playing against a rookie QB and Jake Delhomme in the playoffs. They played well against the Eagles and then singlehandedly lost the Cards the Super Bowl.

Am I missing something? Why are some people in this thread going gaga over him?

On a similar note, the Cards have now fired QB coach Jeff Rutledge.

Maybe it was due to the struggles Warner had this season

We now have an LB coach, so Pendergast isn't an option for us unless they think he can coach DL.

(I'd still prefer Krumrie there)

Also of note, if their hope was to get Keith Butler, they failed. The Steelers have denied permission to interview him. They're going to have to look elsewhere, and the well is now even more dry than it was when we were looking (arguably more so since they only want a 3-4 guy).

That really doesn't make a lot of sense. Most of there money is on the offense, they can't expect a top 5 unit and the D for the Cards stepped up in the playoffs. Confusing really.

Including the postseason,12 times this season they allowed opponents to score at least 24 points in a game. 5 of those games they allowed opponents to score 35 points or more.

Regardless that they spent more on the offence, they still have some very talented players on defence. There's no reason they should be that bad, if anything the great offence should help them out in some cases.

Another coach gets the ax! Cardinals fire QB coach Rutledge

Cardinals fire QB coach Rutledge

by Kent Somers - Feb. 10, 2009 04:02 PM

The Arizona Republic

The Cardinals' offensive staff could undergo a major shuffling in the next few weeks as coaches depart and others take on new assignments.

Quarterbacks coach Jeff Rutledge has been fired, according to sources. The Cardinals already are looking for an offensive coordinator to replace Todd Haley, who became the Chiefs head coach last week.

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt is expected to fill Haley's position from within, which will create another opening. Candidates for the job include assistant head coach/offensive line Russ Grimm, receivers coach Mike Miller, running backs coach Maurice Carthon and tight ends Freddie Kitchens.

Whisenhunt is considering shifting offensive assistant Dedric Ward to receivers coach, and moving Miller to another position.

Ward is close with Haley, and Haley is expected to try to hire him. Ward, however, is under contract, so the Cardinals don't have to let him go.

Ward played receiver in the NFL for eight seasons.

Whisenhunt also is looking for a defensive coordinator to replace Clancy Pendergast, who was fired last week. He is expected to interview linebackers coach Bill Davis and secondary coach Teryl Austin.

Reports that the Cardinals have asked the Steelers for permission to interview linebackers coach Keith Butler for the coordinator job could not be confirmed.

    • Him and Sanders are the only QBs I would consider in the first round. I won’t be upset if we take Sanders, unlike some people on the board. Both have potential to be really good NFL QBs if the teams can develop them.  But as we have seen teams are not willing or are unable to now properly develop rookie QBs.
    • I remember the last time we had a Cam at QB in Charlotte
    • Because Young is so historically bad that it just skews too far outside the normal deviations that perspective is easily lost. That or they just don't want to believe it.  The struggles last year would have been more about the infighting and poor roster building or idiot owner's hiring practices than with Stroud. He wouldn't have been as good but he wouldn't have been ruined here and the pressure was not Carr-esk if you take out the Young created portion from his playing style.  Dude is a young guy on a team coached by a Defensive guy building a good D but not building up the O in year 2 of his HC 1st time gig. Seems familiar... Go look at his output this year and not just some crappy Thursday night implosion game, I would take that in a second and never ever look back every time without a shred of doubt while eating 4 of those games a year with a giant smile on my face.
