I don't think he was talking about production vs projection I think he was talking about game tape vs 40 time, bench press, passing tree drills with no defenders.

yup. he also talked about how struggling at the Senior Bowl/other all star games isn't an immediate dismissal, but doing well is a good sign.

there's a good chance he won't see the field. though I honestly don't think it's because "he doesn't fit Chud's offense", I just think he is going to struggle to win a competition with a veteran.

One thing to consider, Vorbis as well, is that Moore has won every legit QB competition he's been in since college. As a sophomore he beat out Drew Olson for the opening day start, at Oregon St he beat out local hero Ryan Gunderson to start even though he was only there since spring. He's never had a chance to start here until this past year and all reports were that he killed it in camp.

Clausen has never had to compete, he's never had to battle for a job, things were just handed to him. Word at ND was he was furious that Weiss recruited Dane Christ, another highly touted HS QB, the year after Clausen got there because he didn't want to compete.

If it's open comp next year, I don't see Clausen winning at all.

I know, Moore has had to fight his way to his starting jobs in most cases. Unless something has dramatically changed from last year, which I suppose is possible, I don't see Clausen beating out any veteran they bring in.

Clausen knows there will be competition this year. Who knows. Maybe he'll actually react well to it, heh.

every person/writer/reporter that attented camp said Moore was simply the best QB and that it wasn't even close to being a discussion. I don't think it is fair to say Jimmy didn't have a shot.....Jimmy just wasn't good enough.

i wasn't saying that to indicate that moore or clausen was a better quarterback, just that clausen was handled like an abstract concept last season. he wasn't going to leapfrog moore on the depth chart during training camp. it just wasn't going to happen, no matter what he did. hence the no actual competition.

it might have been opened into a competition if Clausen looked better in camp. Fox had no loyalty to Moore at any point he was in Carolina.

I'm agreeable with taking Moore to camp, but not as the only veteran option.

I want someone else too, preferably someone in the "Rodney Peete" mold.

I am of the exact same opinion.

I would personally let Pike loose. The team has a future starter/back up in Jimmy. Pike is at best imo, a back up in the CFL. Moore was clearly the best QB on the roster this season and I believe would do well in the new offense.

Bringing in an old starter is the best possible option this season though. The only way I would keep Pike is if roster sizes increased next season.

good stuff. the radio hosts found articulate ways to ask some of the same questions we've heard rivera asked in every interview, ha. but some of them were thoughtful and it was smart to get him to talk about the 4-3/3-4 thing a bit more. he didn't exactly say anything new, but he didn't wheel out cliché after cliché either.
