how can we write moore off if he was in the same offense that clausen was in last year? if people are going to give clausen the benefit of the doubt, i think moore might deserve it too.
we could write him off because he would no longer be under contract.

I see a lot of people politely dissing king. He only catches practically everything. He just isn't the yac TE that so many of us (including myself) want.

He can still be a great redzone target, and chain mover. We'll still need depth. He may not be the starter for us anymore in the new system, ut that doesn't mean he can't help put points on the board in their efforts to spread the ball around.

King really is a blocking TE though....he is very limited in what he can do as a reciever option. Plus, he probably benefits from the surprise factor as well. No one expects him to be a recievers so he can catch teams off guard.

I'm agreeable with taking Moore to camp, but not as the only veteran option.

I want someone else too, preferably someone in the "Rodney Peete" mold.

I think that announcement will come once the CBA is resolved ;)

Yay 30 INTs

Missed you, glad you're back with all of your insight

yeah, Rivera mentioned Moore again which makes me rethink my impressions upon seeing his original press conference. i originally thought that moore was definitely gone but now i think it's a lot more hazy what will happen. there's no way he's a shoo-in for the roster but they are going to consider him. likely, they're going to consider him against potential draft prospects. i think another experienced vet QB, no matter how many warts he has, is going to be on the training camp roster and likely on the opening day roster barring some injury setback.

Most reasonable people have only thought it would be acceptable to bring him back to camp to compete, that's all.

The unreasonable people claimed he would start (Me, but I know it's going to happen) or that there is no way in hell he's getting brought back.

the fact is, with a new system Moore will be nearly as much of a project to get up to speed as anybody else, so it's not like he's got a headstart on anybody now. he has his habits, good and bad, and he has his abilities, good and bad. it all depends on how confident Chud and Shula are in his ability to be a useful member of the roster, as well as how confident they are in Clausen and Vet X to run the offense and keep everyone involved.

Hurney's quote on the quarterback situation (from about 2:15 into the Panthers.com interview):

"Obviously, there are certain positions we have to get stabilized. And, you know, we've talked a lot about the quarterback position being one of 'em. We have a couple young guys there in Jimmy Clausen and Tony Pike, who...you know, it'll be interesting to see their development. Matt Moore is an unrestricted free agent. We have to address his situation. But I think that we feel like both on offense and defense, we have a core of players that have been have and have performed at a high level."

I wouldn't throw more than 20 before I got hurt.

Like actually hurt, or you know.. John Fox "Get the hell to IR" hurt?

:P

They just need to lie to Matt and not tell him he's starting... that seemed to be what got him.

This plan has great merit... and could quite possibly put an end to the QB threads we have on here. (Nahhhhhh....)

Man, this guy Rivera is like the polar opposite of John Fox. He's smarter, more articulate, addresses every aspect of every question, and his football philosophy is light years ahead of Fox. I'm so glad Richardson made the transition.

I just wish he'd done it about 5 years earlier. But, I'm happy we finally woke up and switched them out. Not sure what to expect of Rivera, and so far I'm liking all I've heard, but to me anybody above the level of Barry Switzer was an improvement. (Yes, by the end, I despised Fox that much.)

obviously they are considering bringing Moore back or they wouldn't talk about him at all, or at least not like they are, heh.

It'd just be "Well we like some of the young guys we have and we think we should bring in some new faces for competition" or something not, "Obviously Matt Moore is something we need to address." heh

well, that was a lot more optimistic about clausen than in his first statements.

while i do think we really need to be looking another direction, i'm willing to give this coaching staff a little benefit of the doubt concerning clausen. if he can be developed and made not to suck so much, this coaching staff can do it.

Jimmy sending that tweet must have helped out....
