Yeah those can be expensive. I just got engaged pretty recently and the best advice I got was get what you can afford now because it's not the ring it's what it symbolizes and if you want upgrade in a year or two or whatever when you have more cash as an anniversary present if you want.

We got a nice 8k surprise, so we're current or ahead on all bills, beach trip in April is paid for, my wife and I are going to go away to Charleston for the first time since the baby and just enjoy not being flat broke for a couple days.

If I was working I would have upgrades my big screen, but I'm not...

By my math you are lecturing over $21 on the $12,000.

Of course if you invest wisely in a series of CD's you could up your return to potentially $100.
