Wes Bunting Scouting Reports

Yeah, that's pretty insane. It also makes it pretty hard to take this guy seriously.

the way he basses his assesments on players isn't solely based on potential, rather, it's about how well the player would do if he were to start from day one, or if he could even do that from day 1. so a guy like fairley he has as an 8.5 because he can come in and start right away, and could be something special, whereas gabbert is only a 6.8 because he would most likely need a year to learn to play under center even though he is expected to start eventually.

it's actually a genius way to evaluate the talent. I like what I've seen from this guy thus far.

this dude does not have a QB in his top 40...and has Christian Ponder ranked has the second best QB....i cant tell if he is genius or stupid

QB's are have more value than any other position, as a rule. Was Bradford the best ranked player last year coming out? No, but his position elevated that ranking.

the whole "my first QB is at 40, but I'm having 3 QBs go in the top 15" thing is a bit strange.

Mock drafts and player rankings are entirely different. In a mock draft, you try to predict what a team will do. You have to take into account the fact that some teams may very well take a QB top 15, even if you don't think it's a good pick yourself.

yeah but he's basically saying teams are reaching by huge leaps beyond what I really thought a regular thing. It wasn't just one QB but multiples, but... I didn't realize the way he does his rankings is based on how quickly people will perform, that cleared it up :)

Possesses a questionable motor and there is definitely some lazy to his game. Will take some plays off and at times will disappear, but when a play is needed to be made typically his motor is running. There are also some questions about why he hasn't been more productive longer. Didn't have his breakout year until he was draft eligible and his overall passion for the game has come into question.

Impression: A potentially downright dominant NFL defensive lineman who has the skill set and abilities to play just about anywhere and be effective if he wants it. There are some character concerns surrounding his on the field work ethic that need to be checked out. But he just doesn't have the same type of drive as last year's second overall pick, Ndamukong Suh.

This is a problem and a red flag for a number one pick. I am not hating, just saying. I hope we don't get burnt if we actually pick this guy. Makes me want to take a longer look at some of the pros (e.g., Cofield).

Exactly. The laziness/motor concerns are a problem coaching can not typically fix or instill in a player. Much rather obtain a starter in FA, and draft another DT in rounds 3/4. As mentioned above, would be most satisfied as a fan with Green or Peterson.

i think this is the sort of thing you could encounter in a sit down meeting with fairley. talk to him for an hour and a half, let him talk about his own play and see what he says. his work on the field is definitely a factor in his favor, especially this past season. hard to say that his work ethic or attitude kept him from being successful.

if he's tired and he paces himself for a play or two instead of coming out of the game, that is not a serious problem and can be worked through with conditioning or better substitution patterns. if he has attention span issues or lets some sort of emotional game-within-the-game get to him, well, you might get a sense of that in an interview setting. this is all speculation, of course, but interviews are where you would feel a player out on things like this.

I didn't like Fairley since I started looking into prospects, however, his effort isn't what annoys me. A lot of Dlinemen seemed to have issues like that in college, they can often still be dominant in the NFL. Just takes a good coach to get them off their asses.
