It depends on where your located and who is closer per say.

Road Runner has two speeds right now (on paper) Standered has been upgraded to 10 Mbps and Turbo boost is 15 Mbps. Now like someone said earlier its fiber cables go into a node and then it is shared, so if your a apartment complex, hugh neighborhood etc, you probably will "speed test" that speed but on high volume times you won't. I believe Road Runner also has Wideband now in Charlotte which is 50 Mbps.

At&t I believe has two or maybe three different speeds? Varying from 3 Mbps and I believe their high speed is 10 Mbps. The farther you get away from bigger city areas and At&t you will get slower speeds. But they aren't being shared by nodes like TWC is.

Clearwire actually owns the towers that Sprint,Virgin etc use. They use 3G and 4G technology much like the broadband cards. Their home modems use wireless and they have to have a good signal and face towards the towers. The fastest I believe they have is 6 Mbps and the slowest they have is 1.5 Mbps.

Now it all depends on what your using and like you said if you have clearwire, which package you have and how far away you are from the towers. Hope that helped.

RR is good, but over priced in my opinion. Although, I think most home services providers are ripping people....it's ridiculous.

Any phone provider (like AT&T) is likely offering DSL. You have distance limitations from the central office for DSL. The farther away you get from the CO the slower the maximum speed they can offer you.

If you can get fiber connection it is by far the best bang for the buck and responsibly priced considering what you are getting.

I use a lot of TW/RR cable connections for remote offices to connect to my campus network.

The thing I like the most about RR home connections is the dumb cable modem. Most of the time they are just a pass through connection, no firewall or filtering at the modem.

DSL services generally give you a DSL modem that has some built in filtering going on. If you do online gaming (XBOX, PS3) this could potentially cause you some headaches, depending on your skill level with network configurations.

yea its fine, i used to have the turbo speed and it makes no difference. I wouldnt do dsl, theres always issues and down time

Not true. Turbo speed (if it's the $10 extra thing) almost doubled my download.

I assume you live in Greensboro. I had Greensboro timewarner roadrunner and it worked great. Would still have it, but my cable modem went out after 5 years, and the idiot on the help desk tried to tell me my problem was my three computers instead of my one cable modem. Pissed me off to the point that I switched to ATT.

Regarding speed, there really isn't any difference as far as I can tell. As far as service, Time Warner was hit and miss. A big miss the last time I used their help desk. I haven't really had to use ATT's internet help desk yet. Cost wise, it seems that ATT is a little bit cheaper, but that could vary depending on the package that either offers you.

The one thing I do miss about TWC is that when I had cable, internet and phone bundled, caller id popped up on my tv when someone called. Now I actually have to get up to see who is calling.
