Pro Bowl ratings/ State of the NFL

This is why the Players & Owners will be crazy to let a lockout happen. This sport is at an all-time high! With all the sporting event on yesterday for the Pro Bowl to be the highest rated show on TV!!! The piss poor 42-0 at one point pro bowl.

Yes yes I am guilt of watching it all, but it shows how addicted to the NFL we are right now as a nation.

The drawing power of the NFL's laundry was proven again by Fox's Pro Bowl Sunday night. The exhibition drew a 8.6 overnight, translating to 8.6% of TV households in 56 urban markets -- up 8% from last year's Pro Bowl on ESPN and the event's highest overnight in 11 years.

That 8.6% rating is better than ratings for some BCS bowl games, isn't far from a World Series rating and is far higher than the vast majority of all TV sports events outside of NFL action.....

It doesn’t matter that this year’s Pro Bowl was an even bigger dud than usual. It didn’t matter that the NFC led 42-0 late in the second quarter.

...

It was the most-watched Pro Bowl since 1997 with 13.4 million viewers, the most-watched show on television Sunday, and the most watched all-star game in any sport since 2009.

To put it another way: The Pro Bowl nearly gets the same ratings as some BCS games or World Series matchups.

....

I understand both sides in this labor dispute, But they will both be silly to subject the NFL to any kind of momentum loss from a lockout.

I mean if the lockout doesn't get settled until 1 week before the season, there goes a lot of fantasy football fans... viewers (Not all but a lot), and that's just 1 example.

But I am still wowed by the Pro Bowl ratings.

whats crazy is that the ratings for the pro-bowl are well below a regular football game.

But the ratings for the baseball or nba all star game are WAY higher than a regular season matchup.

YET, the nfl pro bowl stomps all sporting events no matter what on that date based on just the sheer number of nfl fans. The nfl community doesn't give a damn about the probowl yet they still dominate the ratings.

I don't know if this ensures a lockout wont happen because the owners already have the tv deals locked up.

oh...and the popularity is one reason that they might go ahead and go with the lock out.

think about it from this angle....no matter what they do, the fans will be there. the fans are so desperate for football that they will endure that crap game just because it's there. people will complain about there being any football, but as soon as the lock out was over the fans would be back. at least thats what the thinking could be.
