Serious (Sad) Question

This happened to my cousin recently. I did the writing a letter thing. She seemed to really appreciate getting a letter and even mentioned she was sick of getting cards because it just made her sad to open them.

So a co-worker was set to have twins. Well, she gave birth to one, and the other died. So here's the question, do I get a condolence card or a congratulations card? I mean on the one hand I don't want to give her a congratulations when one of her twins died, but on the other hand I don't want to short-change the birth of a happy healthy child by only acknowledging the tragedy of the situation.

That is a very sad story

I would offer both congrats and condolences. Don't try too hard to say "the right thing" though. There aren't any words that can make that loss any easier.

Some good advice here... we lost a baby at birth (our middle child of three) but it wasn't a twin... our oldest obviously knew about it and we told the youngest as soon as he was old enough to understand, so a similar situation.
