I know the coaches were hired to better the team, they are more qualified to make those decisions based on experience and football knowledge than I'll ever be so I'll just stick to my opinion which is "If it ain't broke don't fix it".

Deangelo Williams stated he would walk if Skipper wasn't kept on board (per Gantt) in an article dated a few weeks back. He said he didn't want to play for any other coach. This could mean we are going in a different direction. For the Panthers sake, I hope we can secure D-Will.

Tough. Dwill has no say where he will play esp if we franchise him. What if skipper goes to the Vikings, is DWill going to retire? Because no way in hell are the vikings going to overpay Dwill when they got the best back in the NFL up there. He needs to get a damn clue as to how the NFL works.

He didn't say he would only play for Skipper, he said it would affect his decision. Skipper might not go anywhere at all, he said so himself.

not a big deal. our RBs need a fresh perspective from a position coach. they'll grow even more with a new guy. once OTAs and training camp start, they'll forget all about him.

And of course, there's the age thing.

yeah, skipper would have been the old guy on the team. RBs might be upset at losing a grandfather, but they'll get over it.

Under Skipper:

Davis ran us to the superbowl as a downhill runner. His ability to smash mouth a pile for 5 yards downhill was never replaced.

Foster once had a problem with drops. He "converted" to a beefier version of himself, and the fumbles were coached out of him. We had a few good seasons with him.

We complimented the heavier Foster by drafting D-Will, who at the time was considered a "scat back". Breaking big runs to the outside, avoiding the pile.

When Foster was injured, and D-Will was injured, we went to Goings and still got us to the playoffs.

We drafted Stewart and he was a success even as a rookie.

Switched to zone blocking and still had a good run game.

Drafted Goodson and Sutton and both of them were sucessful early.

This coach had success after success and over the years had lots of changes to adjust to in player skill, dimension, and front line blocking scheme. He made it work in all of those conditions.

Oh, and the players loved him.

I hope the new guy is all that. If he is, then Rivera is a genius. If he isn't, don't expect the players not to hold it against him.
