McNabb placing blame?

Mr. Scot

For another, I don't even have to leave Philly. There's Brian Dawkins.

(and more as well)

Im impressed, good choice. If your (more as well) includes guys on the offensive side of the balll I'll be even more impressed, but I wont press my luck. You named 1 so I'll leave you alone. Hopefully in the future we can see you doing more threads PRAISING guys for their leadership instead of nitpicking at it and second guessing it when its totally uncalled for (ex: this thread).

I don't believe McNabb deserves to be praised as a leader. For athleticism, sure. But for leadership, not really. Leaders don't throw their teammates under a bus, and this isn't the first time McNabb has done that.

A similar example, one I've discussed before, was mentioned in this thread by someone else. That being Peyton Manning.

Peyton may well have the greatest QB brain in all of history. I personally believe he's the best QB in the game right now, and deserves to be discussed as best all time.

But as a leader, he's got major issues.

Manning has thrown teammates under the bus just as many times as McNabb has. He's also not so great at accepting blame for his own mistakes. Thus, he may have all the skill in the world, but his character leaves a lot to be desired.

Bottom Line: Right now the league doesn't have very many names on the list of "great black passers". Warren Moon belongs there. Ditto Steve McNair. Doug Williams might. Daunte Culpepper doesn't. Donovan McNabb? Maybe, but when I compare him to Moon or McNair he comes up wanting.

Of current pros, Byron Leftwich is probably the best passer but might be too fragile to be a full time starter. JaMarcus Russell is incomplete. David Garrard has shown potential, but isn't there yet. The guy who's probably in the best position to become another great black QB right now is Jason Campbell. He's got the tools and has a great QB mentor in head coach Jim Zorn.

But even if all these guys become all they can be, it'll still be a relatively short list.

And unfortunately, this is not going to change until college coaches stop training their black QBs to do "one read and run" and start teaching them to be pocket passers! :mad2:

Jim Tressel did it with Troy Smith. Bill Stewart did it with Pat White. Both of them, sadly, will have trouble in the NFL not because they're black, but because they're short (as QBs go). The guy who can be good enough to buck this trend is, hopefully, out there somewhere, but at least for the moment I can't tell you his name.

(be glad to see him when he shows up though)

Would you praise him as a "QB" and not just an "athlete"? Because I look at Donovan as more than just an "athlete", he's a QB, and a very good one. "Athletes" dont rack up all the stats and accolades that Donovan has playing under center, QBs do. Tavaris Jackson is an "athlete", Donovan McNabb is a "QB". You deem Steve McNair as a "great black passer", but exclude McNabb. Why? McNabb's passing stats are better all across the board then McNair and he's still got another 4-5 years left in the tank. As for your comment about leadership, leadership isnt just about what you say off the field, its also about what you do on it. Its easy for us to sit back and look at comments Peyton & Don have made in the heat of the moment after tough losses and say they arent leaders, but I bet if you ask any of their teammates that go to war with them in training camp and 17 weeks out of the year are they leaders, every single one of em will tell you HELL YES. Some leaders lead by example ON THE FIELD, and inspire their teammates thru their play. Donovan & Peyton are 2 of the best at that. So I have to disagree with your assessment of their leadership.

Here's Donovan's response to the 2 articles you posted in this thread...

McNabb: 'I don't throw people under the bus'

Hopefully there will come a day soon where we can stop writing about this, but as long as Donovan McNabb and his teammates (current and former) keep talking, we'll continue to recap what they say.

This time McNabb was at the Wachovia Center Saturday for the Villanova-Syracuse game.

Comcast SportsNet caught up with him, and asked McNabb about the perception that he threw the defense under the bus with his comments last week on WIP.

"As long as the guys in the locker room understand what I was saying, and they do, that's all that matters," McNabb said.

"I don't throw people under the bus. I never did, never will, so they understand exactly what I'm saying."

Interviewer Kevin Walsh brought up Jeremiah Trotter's comments last week when the ex-Eagle said McNabb doesn't want to be in Philadelphia. After a big laugh, McNabb said that's not true.

"No, it's not. It's unfortunate that they would say that but everybody has their own judgment I guess," McNabb said. "The only people that I truly care about at this particular point are the people that are putting on the uniform, who's been in the locker room, who's been through the ups and downs. So that's all that matters to me. Anyone else I don't care about."

McNabb reiterated his stance that he wants to stay with the Eagles until he retires.

Looks like he's disputing everything that has been "speculated" about him.

Look back at the questions I asked. You'll find the answer within.

As to his new statements, I always expect guys to say they didn't do it, even when they did. JR and some other Philly fans would tell you it's nothing new with McNabb, and also that he may not be quite as loved in the locker room as he thinks he is.

You're not making sense. In his 10 seasons Don's got more passing TDs & less INTs than McNair did in 13. He'll surpass him in passing yardage & completions next season and his career QB rating is 3 points higher than McNairs. So how can McNair be a "great black passer" yet McNabb gets disrespected as "just an athlete"? How does Jason Campbells' 13 TD, 3,245 yard season this past year "put him in the best position as the next great black passer" but McNabb's 23 TD, 3,916 yard year last year still doesnt make him a "QB"? This is the bias Im talking about. Campbell has never won anything. He has potential, but to praise him as a QB, and slight McNabb as just an "athlete" is insane.

KT why does the athlete have to be a superstar? There are meat and potatoes, quietly great guys like Tim Duncan in the NBA who no one that I know of thinks of as some superstar like Kobe but who is considered a BIG TIME leader of their team and has pretty much everyone's respect.

Also to me leadership isn't always one type. Manning may be considered a "leader" because of his skill level and how it helps his team win. He's a turd of a teammate though IMO. I always get the idea from some of the things I hear and reading between the lines that his teammates tolerate his bus throwing under and whining only because of his skill. To me that's not what I would call real LEADER.

What would I do without MadHatter to set me straight in life? I do agree with you though, the orginal intent of this thread was WORTHLESS.

I am not trying to set anyone straight.

It is just that you manage to turn every thread into a "How the white man is kepping the black man down"...."How the black man does not have a fair chance"...."How the black man is mistreated".

people need to step up and take responsibility for their lives....stop blaming somone else for everything that you don't get or don't have.

I dont manage to turn every thread into that. But when its pertinent Ima speak on it. Some you fools dont think its ever pertinent and thats why you're uncomfortable speaking on it. Donovan McNabb has accomplished more than almost all of his contemporaries this era yet we've got people on this board who wont even acknowledge him as a QB? Thats disrespect. If Ive got a "race" agenda as some of you proclaim, some of you gotta "if a black man is considered great and he knows it I must tear him down" agenda. I call a spade a spade.

Greatest Power Forward of All Time!!

And as for the rest of the thread, don't sleep on David Garrard. It wasn't his fault that this year that his offensive line was decimated, that his best receiver was caught with cocaine, and that the rest of his team and coach were fighting each other all season.
