clausen still part of "long term plan"...wait what?

Recommended Posts

winning plan! sit around behind some vet and hope that clausen develops into a good QB!

so what happens if he doesn't?

how long of a chance to we give him as a starter before we figure out he isn't worth the start?

what do we do in the meantime?

if clausen doesn't turn out to be a good QB, then we have to start the whole thing over again and go through another 3 years of the same crap.

What happens if he doesnt? we move on to tony pike and if that doesnt work we draft whoever is going to be the next Luck in the following draft.

I say we draft every quarterback we can in every draft until we find that franchise guy!! It's the most important position by far, so why not!?

because every other position would turn to poo. and you would never develop a QB pass 1 year because you're too dumb to give anyone a chance to learn. Thats great mentally when it comes to players like aaron rodgers, take away his 3 years of grooming and the packers wouldn't be in this years super bowl.

LOL @ people ready to give up on Clausen after his rookie season.

To be fair he had a worse first season the Weinke, and Weinke threw a lot more then he did as well.

To be honest I have given up on him. He was a risk worth taking in the 2nd but he showed last year he dose not have what it takes to be a Fran QB. Wait if you want but you will end up disappointed.

You could make a pretty good argument that he had a worse team around him too.

I'd say our depth chart this season could look a lot like it did at the start of 2003, when it was an old vet (Peete) a young mid-level FA (Delhomme) and a young question mark (Weinke). The order might not be the same, but the options very well could be. The names, quite possibly Volek, Clausen and Moore.

We'll see.

(for the record, I expect a final outcome much closer to 2002 than 2003)

Yep.

The OC we've got has pretty much zero experience in a West Coast system. He's a student of Norv Turner, who was a student of Ernie Zampese, who was a student of Don Coryell.

That's the style we're playing, but minus the John Fox "I'd rather call my worst run than pass" mentality.

It's not like McNabb doesn't have a big arm. What part of the McNabb/Jackson combo isn't a vertical offense? Reid is a WC guy but obviously he changed the offense to suit McNabb (and Vick this past year).

After watching how McNabb played in a non-WCO offense this past season, I'm not interested.

Nobody that's looked good in Andy Reid's offense has ever gone to a different attack and been successful. For that matter, no WCO quarterback from any system that I know of has gone to a different style and remained a winner.

Throw in that I think McNabb's a bit too old and injury prone to be counted on as a franchise guy, but I doubt his ego would settle for a stopgap role.

Is McNabb a possibility? Sure. Would I sign him? No way :nonod:

Who else would be a better option than him though? I mean he's obviously pretty much past it but so are all the other guys being mentioned.

We're not getting a franchise QB this season. there just aren't any available from any avenue.

As far as stopgaps, if Denver's trade demands were expected to be more reasonable, I'd go for Kyle Orton, but I don't see that happening.

David Garrard would be nice to have in that role too (arguably better than Orton) but availability and attainability are an issue there as well.

Sticking with guys that are actually expected to be real possibilities, I'd go to camp with Billy Volek, Jimmy Clausen, Matt Moore and Tony Pike. Keep the best three performers out of that bunch when the season starts.

Spectacular? Far from it, but as I've said many times, this is a lousy year to need a quarterback :(

I think we'll be looking again next year, but thankfully the options are expected to be better.

Here's my issue with Volek. He has 10 career starts. Same as Jimmy. I mean maybe he'd have a head start in terms of the playbook but that's something he should be picking up pretty fast anyway.

Gantt said the same poo about Cantwell last off-season. How did that turn out? Gantt is a mouthpiece for the front office's bullpoo. Take his reports with a grain of salt.

Gantt was the one they were singling out in the press conference for the reports about contacting Jim Harbaugh.

Like him or not, the notion that he's just a parrot for the front office doesn't have any merit.
