Co-worker died after knee surgery

True for sure. It has been tough lately where I work. Three weeks ago, a wonderful 41 yr old woman found out she had a malignant brain tumor which is very aggressive. She has been given 12-14 mths to live. One of our training coordinators just had a double mastectomy with a poor prognosis. Another administrative person is having a double mastectomy next week. We lost a beloved department head in Nov. Another department head lost their partner 2 weeks ago. Life suddenly feels like a minefield.

I hope I am taking less for granted....and appreciating people more.

That's a lot of cancers for one company. Where do you work?

Oh, I'm sure the $20,000+ that was billed to his Insurance Company for services rendered was worth every penny. Sorry to hear of your loss, LP.

I fuggen hate the medical industry right now. I'm so fed up with their endless fuging horseshit "care." Burn the motherfugers down.

I wonder if they scheduled your friend's corpse for a follow up appointment...

Sorry to hear. I agree with becoming a smarter patient. I may be having shoulder surgery soon. I'm making sure to do my research and I'm seeing the best shoulder specialist around these parts.

I'm sorry for your friend LP... when I had my shoulder surgery in December that was the thing that they cautioned me about most... they wanted me on aspirin for two weeks and up and moving the day after due to the chance of clots. The doc said if I laid around the chance of clotting greatly increased and that was the most dangerous part of my surgery. I followed their instructions to the letter, but I think some people are more susceptible than others.

30 yrs old. He worked out and was an athlete. Blew out his knee playing basketball. Had knee surgery Thurs....died Mon. Knee was so bad.....was confined to bed rest. Threw a clot. A real tragedy. Who knew you could die from knee surgery??

Not sure if the post op advice was appropriate. ( I would never have surgery in this [small] town).

Maybe this will help someone out there ask some questions they had not thought of before if in a similar situation. I know I will be a smarter patient. But so terrible for this guy, his family and friends. He was a good person and a great person to work with.

Wow, LP, that's just awful. I guess the blood clotting could happen with any surgery, though. Feel so bad for his family and friends. :(

I am sorry to hear of such terrible news lp.....I can't imagine the sadness to be seeing so many faced with terrible trauma and horrible prognoses....i will keep you in my prayers and hope there will be a turnaround and some good news soon.

On another side... I might be faced with a knee surgery myself...i think i will be aggressive with non-surgical options until all other options are no longer helpful. No sense going under the knife if therapy and meds work.

Its absolutely frightening how far behind some hospitals are when compared to others.
