Co-worker died after knee surgery

30 yrs old. He worked out and was an athlete. Blew out his knee playing basketball. Had knee surgery Thurs....died Mon. Knee was so bad.....was confined to bed rest. Threw a clot. A real tragedy. Who knew you could die from knee surgery??

Not sure if the post op advice was appropriate. ( I would never have surgery in this [small] town).

Maybe this will help someone out there ask some questions they had not thought of before if in a similar situation. I know I will be a smarter patient. But so terrible for this guy, his family and friends. He was a good person and a great person to work with.

Poor guy.

Not the best story to read right now for me. Mom is about to have her right knee replaced, nothing went wrong on her left knee or her hip, but anything can happen.

Reminds me of Chris Candido. Wrestler who broke his leg on a PPV (saw it live, gross as hell) then died of a blood clot within a couple days.

Wow.

Just had a friend get both knees operated on a few weeks of each other. I never realized how dangerous those procedures can be.

I heard this story and had deja vu...

was out "walking and talking" as they say, and came across a lady who had was telling me about a co-workers son who broke his leg and had a blood clot in his leg... he is now okay, but never a good sign..

he is only 16.. (IIRC)

shitty...for sure. all need to be a little thankful and appreciative of life...it can be snuffed so quickly

True for sure. It has been tough lately where I work. Three weeks ago, a wonderful 41 yr old woman found out she had a malignant brain tumor which is very aggressive. She has been given 12-14 mths to live. One of our training coordinators just had a double mastectomy with a poor prognosis. Another administrative person is having a double mastectomy next week. We lost a beloved department head in Nov. Another department head lost their partner 2 weeks ago. Life suddenly feels like a minefield.

I hope I am taking less for granted....and appreciating people more.
