ANALYSIS/SYNOPSIS:

- believes that his fresh ideas and connection with Jerry Richardson helped get him the job.

- loves getting the job because it's a young team and a great community

- very big on hard work, discipline, structure and work ethic

- repeated that he wants the defense to be aggressive, attacking and versatile

- likes DeAngelo Williams and looks forward to working with him

- says the offensive line is the key to everything in the run or the pass game

- emphasizes how special teams can get you "hidden yardage"

- happy to get Brian Murphy; said one of the connections is that Murphy was on Norv Turner's "short list" for ST coach (it was known some time ago that Steve Crosby would be out)

- stated that Rich Bisaccia, the former Bucs ST guy who is now with the Chargers, was the other guy on the Panthers short list as well (good choice)

- taking longer than he wanted to get his staff in place

- eager to get to work with the players

- sounds like his wife and family will still be on the West Coast for a while; he's obviously anxious to get them moved

Going a little deeper, one of the biggest things I liked in this clip is that he discussed the notion of whether you run to set up the pass or pass to set up the run. In Rivera's mind, that's not a valid debate. You have to be able to do both effectively or your offense just isn't going to work.

All in all, more to be happy about :)

I think we got the right guy, Look for DWill to get franchised so he can't move. Being a vertical type offense I really look for a veteran QB to be brought in via trade or free agency.

Being the Devil's advocate, I heard somethings too....

Rivera sounds like Richardson's yes man....

Rivera said that he had heard how good the new special teams coach is and indicated that he had not met him prior to the hire, nor was he involved in hiring the guy, which bothers me.....seems to me he should be involved in that process.

Rivera supports Chud in the vertical passing game offense, which requires an accurate QB who can stand in the pocket and deliver........I always liked Henning (his O took us to the superbowl), but thought he oversimplified and was too conservative, yet by setting up the pass with the run his vertical passing game made a lot of sense and took the pressure off the QB.....Chud's vertical passing game sounds like it will place all the pressure on the QB, which we don't have.

Rivera said that obtaining the coaching staff was taking longer than normal and then corrected himself and said that it was taking longer than anticipated......now....this was a slip.....but it is very telling. He is not assembling this staff and he is basically waiting for Hurney and Richardson to put it together. If the staff is taking longer than Rivera anticipated to hire, what input will he have when it comes to draft picks, FA signings and so on.....kind of makes you think he is being set up to succeed or fail by Hurney and Richardson....either that or he's just so happy to be a head coach, he is willing to accept what ever the management gives him.......I don't see this as a positive at all.

Honestly, I'm not convinced that Rivera is that much different than John Fox, aside from the fact that he's the new blood and he's saying what people want to hear. Really though, what new HC doesn't say things that sound good in the beginning?

That's why I wanted Rob Ryan...he is the polar opposite of John Fox in just about every way. About that only thing they have in common, is that they were both DC's. Plus, his brothers's players would crawl through 5 miles of poo for him, and they are basically the same guy.

Fox's players would do the same.....not one had a bad word to say about Fox.....many of the players in 2010 were simply not qualified to be on the field yet or ever....

I believe Rivera will have the some type of repoire with the players....let's hop he gets the drafts and FAs he needs to succeed.

I know Fox's guys played hard and I never believed all that "Fox has lost the team" BS, but I don't think he had their loyalty to the extent that Rex Ryan has with his players. That guy has damn near every FA on the market wanting to play for the Jets now...I would have never thought that was posssible. They want to win for him because they want more coaches like him in the league (Bart Scott told Chris Collinsworth exactly that), and who is more like him than his brother?

Anyway, I hope Rivera is the right guy because I have no choice, but I will become his biggest fan if he backs up the talk.

The only slip Rivera had concerning filling his staff was because of the fact he hasn't been involved in that process before therefore he doesn't know how long it's supposed to take. I don't think it was evident he isn't involved in the process. Perhaps there's just not many good coaches to choose from since every other team is going through a coaching change as well.

It's not that hard to look at other teams who have hired new head coaches and see how long the process takes....I'm sure Rivera's anticipated time frame was in line with that time frame. It indicated to me that he's not very involved in the selection or hiring process....

Yeah Ryan is a exciting football coach but he will burned out in 3 years. Which with what he is producing isnt a bad thing. But after he burns out the Jets will be in a mess.

His health will be an issue, but I don't see him burning out. His fire is going to kill him, if he doesn't lower his weight.
