Cam Newton Public Workout

Big Ben is not a runner, he's a scrambler. Cam is a runner. Anything else?

Call it what you want, but once he breaks out of that pocket, the X's and O's go out the window. That is a fact. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever why Cam can't learn do the same thing, as well as make the called plays.

Oh, and every QB, including Andrew Luck, has issues that they need to work on. I saw that kid look an awful lot like Jake Delhomme on a few plays where he was under pressure and panicked, but nobody seemed to be worried about that for some reason.

There is no question that they all have issues but Luck was the most polished out of all of them.

The difference between big ben and Cam is that Ben reads the defense from in the pocket and tries to go through progressions but when he is forced out he buys time and only at this point do X's and O's go out the window then he makes the throws.

Cam has been trained to look at his primary read then take off and run. Once you decide to run you are no longer looking downfield trying to make a play passing the ball. It's hard to change that mentality. It's taken Vick a very long time and who knows if Cam will be able to make that transition.

The only way these two are similar is in body type.

Yeah, Big Ben reads defenses now, but he couldn't do that in college. Hell, even now he wouldn't make half of these big plays if it wasn't for his size. The guy holds the ball longer than any starting QB in the league, including Jimmy Clausen. The only difference is that he's big and strong enough to get away with it.

Like I said, the only way they are similar is in body type. After that all comparisons go out the window.

I'll be in SD on the 10th and I'll be at the workout. Hopefully for him it'll show that his footwork is no longer lazy or non-existent and his NFL throws are more accurate.

I'm sure you will be open minded about it.

BTW, what exactly are your qualifications for judging a QB?

I can't find anything that says he couldn't make reads in college. In fact there weren't many negatives to Ben's game coming out.

There is a lot that goes into it. You don't have to read my work if you don't want, no one is forcing you. I already said I wasn't going to post my review on here because only a few people would find it worth while and all the other homers would attack it. I'll let ESPN tell you how good he is, fair?

blue eyes and blonde hair...duh.

Not really a fan of either.
