i am curious besides hype , what made andrew luck such a sure fire pick as the #1 qb on the board? was it level of competition, system, coaching, stats. wins? what was it?
i was on his bandwagon before most.

football IQ is off the charts. his ability to read defenses is far more advanced than most coming out of college. his poise in the pocket and decision making abilities under pressure are amazing. he ran that offense using a playbook with 350 plays that he had command over. he is very coachable and has pretty close to a photographic memory. he is known for being a great leader and has all the intagibles teams look for in a franchise QB. he has an incredible ability to extend plays, waiting downfield for things to develop and he worked through progressions quickly. when things broke down for receivers, he could take off running and pick up quite a few yards. he's a tough runner for a QB and a lot faster than you would expect. his technique is sound and it's very hard to find any flaws in his play. only criticisms that were found had to do with an awkward release that he has from time to time and some criticized his competition.

Rob Rang probably talked to 10 different people before he got the quotes he wanted. Do you really believe this wasn't an agenda driven article?

This is what the modern sports media does. They spend about 80% of their time looking for a "controversy" to blow all out of porportion, 15% of their time patting themselves on the back because they created that "controversy", and the other 5% doing honest journalism.

After all, the boring, controversy free, articles don't sell advertising or get people fired up for the talk radio guys.

So now, Rob Rang has some agenda to bring down Cam Newton too?

Seriously :frown2:

Can nobody say a bad thing about this guy without being accused of having a secret agenda? Good grief. I guess Russ Lande must be in on it too.

Geez. The media sure must think Newton is a really dangerous guy if they're going to all this effort just to bring him down.

Do you guys have any idea just how silly this stuff sounds?

Players have workouts all the time. This isn't unheard of. It is just because it is Cam that this is even a story. The guy he is working out with probably liked what he has seen so much they decided to get him some early exposure to help raise his stock. NO SCOUT said he would not go to the combine or Auburn's pro day because of this workout. That would be the worst logic in the history of scouting. If anything they may skip the 2/10 workout and watch him AT the combine or the Pro Day.

I'm going to stop you there because you seem confused.

When has a player had a workout where no scouts were allowed? This is not the typical workout, this is media only. This serves no other purpose than hype.

Players decline the combine to work out at pro days, where scouts are invited and often run the day. This is nothing like that. This is basically "The Decision" but with Cam instead of LeBron.

Even though the Pac10 had SOS of 8 of the top 10 and all 10 were in the top 20. No other conference even comes close.

SEC fans need to get real for a minute.

He did get injured in the champ game. Taking a hit like that in the NFL puts you out, not just hobbled.

To be successful he'll have to learn to be Big Ben. They aren't similar now, but that'll be his chance at success. Be elusive and extend plays and make throws downfield, not break the pocket and run.

It might not make a difference to you but Cam Newton is actually bigger than any linebacker we have on out roster right now. You guys act like he is a lightweight fighting against super heavyweights.

I know he won't be able to run 20.31 times a game in the NFL, but don't think for a second you wouldn't see an immediate improvement on 3rd and 1 or 3rd and 2, or our efficiency inside the five yard line in the red zone.

When you have a guy 6'6 250 pounds I don't think that linebackers that are actually smaller than him are just going to destroy him just because the are NFL linebackers. If they can even catch him.

I just hope that this isn't the last time scouts get to see him before the draft. I doubt he does the combine but hope he will do the Auburn pro day.

I definitely get the feeling he won't go to the Combine. Truthfully though, that's not so unusual these days. Used to be unthinkable. Not anymore.

If they declare that this workout was "all the proof they needed" and don't take part in the Auburn Pro Day though, they'll really be shooting themselves in the foot.

The guy that hurt him was considerably smaller than him. His size has little to do with his durability, that's all. He's not made of steel.

Luck ran pro system had pro coaching and showed that he can make more then 1-2 reads. He also was a pretty good athlete in his own right.
