Cam Newton Public Workout

Cecil Newton recieved money in exchange for his son to go to a certain school.

Oliver Luck defended his sons decision to stay at STANFORD UNIVERSITY and finish his degree instead of going after the big payday.

If you can't see the difference in those two scenarios, there is no helping you.

Yeah, I get that. That doesn't prove that Cecil Newton will be a problem for whatever team drafts his son though, and he is not exactly the first parent of a star football player that was involved in his son's life, or the first parent that took money from boosters either. This stuff has been going on all my life, and most of those players have done just fine in the NFL. The only difference is that nobody knew about it.

It amazes me that I'm getting so much sh*t for this after all the times I was accused of defending John Fox's conservative approach. Well I'm ready for agressive and very few people seem to be with me for some strange reason.

maybe I'm missing something? I haven't seen anyone give you poo for anything on this topic.. unless you are taking someone else explaining their opinion to be a personal attack..

That he didnt even go to. Cecil Newton is also a former NFL player (like Oliver Luck) who has already put one son in the league at the center position. This fact is NEVER mentioned on this board. EVER!!! Only time Cecil Newton is mentioned on this board is when a poster wants to stand on a soap box about the black family. Thats it. Cam has already said he's forgiven his dad and has moved on, so why cant the bigots on this board? Am I supposed to believe those bigots GENUINELY care about Cam's welfare? Or are they just using Cam's dad to take a shot at Cam himself? I think the latter. And Im certain 99% of these clowns are not of the same heritage as Cam or his dad.

Oliver Luck convinced his son playing for Carolina wasnt in his best long term interest and that going back to school without his coach and half his team is a better option. What he did isnt too far off from Archie Manning overseeing Eli's future and encouraging him to make demands. Luck was just smart enough to do it BEFORE the draft. Its also interesting how an Archie-Eli situation doesnt scare this fanbase off from an Andrew Luck. In fact, Luck's hype and situation reminds me so much of Eli's back in '05.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not naive to think Cams dad is the first or last to be cashed out by a college for his son's talents, I'm simply saying that lumping Oliver Luck into the same group as Cecil Newton as "meddling parents" is a bit silly IMO.

Anybody here see The Fighter? The way Micky Ward's mom was constantly trying to get paid off him even if it meant putting him in harms way? That is the kind of thing that is really shitty.

That being said, I don't think that will be an issue at the NFL level because going from college to the professional world is a huge change, and I don't think there is an NFL franchise that would let some prospects' parents tell them this is how it's going to be.

I didn't even know that about Cecil Newton. That's good for him, and he seems to know his poo and his son trusts him and that's great. And I'm not even getting into the whole race thing, but a lot of these young athletes never even had a father in their life, so it's good he does and that he is hands on. But to say Oliver Luck told Andrew that the Panthers weren't in his best interests long term when that has NEVER been suggested outside of the Carolina fanbase is a bit ludicrous I think.

I didn't really mean it like that. I just can't believe that there are so many John Fox haters around here who want to do the exact same thing he would have done, which is to go the conservative route and settle for a mediocre vet QB to be a short term band aid, instead of really going for it and signing a potential (sure thing in my mind) superstar who defenses will dread playing against for the next 12 years.

Those same people would rather see our defense play agressive and blitz on every single down, whether it actually works or not, than to play a conservative style that does work.

And just to clarify my stance again because it got buried back in page two I think, I am not against Cam Newton. If he becomes the Carolina franchise QB I will do what I always do and ignore all faults and issues and buy his authentic jersey the day it comes out and support him 100%. I am just against taking him at #1, which in my personal opinion is a reach. if we traded down with SF or someone and got picks and Newton I'd be ecstatic.

Well, 3 years from now when Cam Newton is starting, winning games, and putting butts in the seats, nobody will care if Kiper, Mayock, pro scouts, or the fans said it was a reach, because that team will have their franchise QB for the next 8-10 years.

Monstercat can you imagine that big body out there running around and making plays behind our O line for the next 5 years? I can man. Just imagine the possibilities. Think of how much our situation would turn around just putting him out there. Me and alot of other Panther fans think taking Cam at #1 is a no brainer. And our pride and image wouldnt take a hit if we did. If you draft him, they will come. ;)

If that scenario plays out, I think everyone that has posted in this thread would be ecstatic.

man if only other quarterbacks signed footballs for fans!

I'm with Montsta... Don't want to take him at #1. But I am of the opinion that if the organization is sold on him and/or someone else as a franchise QB for the future, you take them #1. I'm just not yet, but I'd be excited by any player we drafted.

I am just not sure Cam is the only big player in this draft that could make an impact on this team down the line.

Those pictures are only meant to illustrate just how much Cameron Newton is a "people's QB". Meaning he's a guy who's very visible and involved with the fans. If the Panthers were to draft a Cam Newton, they know they'd be getting a guy who is gonna come down to Spartanburg in July and work his ass off for the fans. This isnt a player who is shy about speaking or doesnt like being around people. He would electrify Wofford and interact with the fans and allow them to touch him and be apart of his experience. This is a guy who's all about team and all about "US" and "WE". Its a big part of why he's been a champion his whole life.
