Cam Newton Public Workout

LOL I love how everyone is comparing him to JaMarcus when Gabbert is known to throw off his back foot and has come to camp many times over weight. Yet he is some how a 1st round steal and Newton is trash because he works his ass off and throws off his back foot. Talk about double standards.

You are vastly exaggerating how most people feel about both players. Both of them have received some very strong critiques of their play. Gabbert draws plenty of comparisons to major busts around the NFL, just as I said earlier

He ran a gimmick offense. The second highlight in that video shows him catching a pass. How much more gimmicky does it need to be?

Most of the draw plays were designed (evidenced by the center blocking safeties while Cam was still in the backfield). That kind of offense can't even be run in the NFL. Is the whole O-line going to report as eligible receivers?

Some of the throws he made were off his back foot or while jumping backwards.

Reminds me of JaMarcus every step of the way... from the size to his ridiculous arm strength. Give me Warren Moon or a healthy Dante Culpepper any day over this glorified running back.

A guy throws 26 TDS (same number as Luck) and he is a running quarterback??? LOL

Sure he ran for 20 more but that just shows his all around athleticism. But he showed throughout the year that he will take what he is given and his running ability just enhances his throwing as teams have to prepare to for both possibilities. That won't change in college or the NFL. No one says he isn't a project, but the guys who are giving Clausen a pass for this year should be willing to do the same for Newton. Given he only played 1 season for Auburn and accomplished so much if he continues to make the same progression in the pros, it might not take 2 or 3 years before he really shows his ability. After all even Vince Young made the pro-bowl in his rookie year. Even came back in 2009 and was voted to the pro bowl again. If his head were screwed on right, he would be a very good quarterback in the NFL.

Do you really think the number of touchdowns he throws is what defines him as a running quarterback? No, it's his style of play, which is indeed based off of the offense he runs. It's basically a single read, if it's not there, take off. He was amazing in it, and he executed Auburn's offense to complete perfection and deserves props for it. I just don't know how well that will translate to the NFL.

Also, Luck threw 32 TDs, not that it matters.

Was that directed at me? OK, show me what I've said about Gabbert and I'll eat crow.

Touchy are we... No it was not, it was directed at the people that are saying that.

Lighten up a lighten up a little here is something that might help.

Cam will be a good QB on a team that designs its entire offense around him (a la Auburn circa 2010). But in the NFL, how many teams are going to design their entire offense around one player? The Colts? They'd still finish .500 or better without Peyton.

On a pro-style offense where the emphasis is on spreading the ball, he's going to look like a scrub. He looks like a god in college because the entire team is playing to make sure he makes the play every down. But when you've got salaried players, there will be owners wondering why they have a $15,000,000 running back who is second on the team in carries.

I personally feel that the comparisons to Russell for all the QBs in this draft are a bit exaggerated and silly.

How? There is a whole lot of people saying Newton is in the wrong system, throws off his back foot, and compare him to JaMarcus.

Then those same people say Gabbert is worth the pick yet he is know to come to camp overweight, plays in a spread offense, and throw off his back foot.

Where did I stretch anything there?

you should look at "those people" and realize they are idiots if this is true.. no respectable person is doing so. no one is going around claiming Gabbert is the next franchise/extremely good QB, and Newton is not..

Bleys is an apologist for white racism and ignorance. And another Panther fan that will bolt ship if we integrate our QB roster. He's very much pro-segregation when it comes to our QBs. Dudes can sit up here and stereotype successful black people all day and Bleys will never speak against it or call them out for it. Only give his quiet support. The only person on the Huddle he's willing to call a racist is a black person. I wouldnt expect Bleys to lobby for one to be his NFL QB.

Russell represents every NFL exec's biggest fear right now.

High draft pick, paid loads of money, took up a roster spot for a couple of years, produced literally almost nothing for a huge investment. So now, everybody's afraid of getting that "next JaMarcus Russell".

And no, it's not racial. It has to do with the bust factor. I saw the same thing after Ryan Leaf busted too. Anytime someone was skittish about a potential draft bust, there was the question of whether he might be "another Ryan Leaf".

As soon as somebody else busts big time, they'll replace JaMarcus as the symbol for fear of failure.

KT: An honest question.

Do any of your posts contain anything of substance or are they limited to calling out perceived racism where there is none? Do you ever take the blinders off for a second to realize that black (oh my G-d I used the word black!) quarterbacks can be analyzed and critiqued just as much as a white, Hispanic, Jewish or purple polka-dotted quarterbacks? I honestly don't understand why when anything involves an African-American football player any comment made about them is made because of the complexion of their skin. What you're doing is hypocritical, petty and serves precisely no purpose.

Why do you insist on doing this all of the time?

Where did you hear Gabbert was out of weight?

My issues with Newton really aren't exactly his system so much as what his system asks of him giving me question marks. I do not think he is the next Leaf, Russell, Vick, McNabb, or Big Ben. He's his own dude. However, I also seem some big upside there, I just worry about how much of his athleticism will translate into being an NFL QB.

I also have questions about Gabbert, but perhaps those would be better discussed in one of the million threads about him? :P
