Panthers go No.1: P.P.

I don't really think it matters if it's the #1 pick or not. People get to caught up with number's. Marshalls gone right? Gambles getting older. Captin's ok, but he's undersized. Peterson could be a Devin Hester type for this team. Just as long as he stays on the defensive side of the ball. He has FS size, good speed, He's a good pick for a defensive minded team who's secondary is suspect at times.

key players like that, namely those drafted early, will not be returning many kicks or punts later in their career.. maybe the 1st season or 2, but that's about it..

Thats not what I said at all. In bringing up Hester, ya'll do remember he played CB when he got to the league right? He wasn't drafted just to return kicks.

 he played CB?

edit: oh, you mean WR? His work there wasn't THAT forgettable ;) He's just not an every down receiver. He did almost nothing at WR early in his career tho.

Hell, I would hope if we draft PP we would have him playing CB most downs once he earns his spot...

yes, hester was drafted as a CB and he was even less talented as a CB than WR. main reason for him being drafted was as a returner.

they moved him to WR after a couple years hoping that his return skills would translate to WR. the result has been less that spectacular.

He played CB his first 2 seasons

The fact is Hester is a monster returner...that's pretty much his shtick

Concerning Peterson:

It all depends on how good our staff thinks Peterson can be at CB. If he can continue to return kicks and be a stud, I view his ceiling more similar to a Deon than a Devin.

I think the kid's gonna make a big impact in this league and would be fine with getting him...(Fairley & Green are still ahead of him in my book though)

this comparison is going to be key. i think his comparison is a lot closer to that of sanders than hester as a mutli talent.

if people think they are getting the best thing at CB since deion sanders (which could very well be) he makes the most sense as the #1 overall.

at this point, gamble and munnerlynn are the #1 and #2 CBs on the team. marshall is a FA and most likely won't be back so CB is a huge need. we also have a need at returner. no one has outright one the job and peterson will have a leg up on all the guys we have had returning last year. he's got a lot more experience, thats for sure.

The thing I find very interesting is that he is 6'1" 222, Deion was 6'1" ~200...And the more I watch Peterson highlights, the more I like the kid

Also, he has even played running back before. So, pending how well he can acclimate himself with a team's ST/D schemes and playbook, I can see him being thrown in on occasion offensively but not even close to the extent of Hester who completely changed his position. Just to shake things up, maybe confuse some defenses.

I also like the fact that he is a straight up play maker who can single handedly change a game's momentum. We've needed more players like this after our loses over the past few years and Green, Fairley, & Peterson are the only one's in my opinion that are. As long as we nab one of them, I'm great. :)

Again, the more I watch Peterson clips, the more I'm sold on the kid.
