#90 past and future

'But some question if Fairley always gives full effort on every play. As sensational as he is on some plays, Fairley can be completely non-existent on others. It's an issue that Auburn head coach Gene Chizik brought up early in the season."

"He was underrated after last year because nobody knew who he was coming in, but I saw him in games last year," Auburn middle linebacker Josh Bynes said. "I'm right behind him and I see things that are outrageous. That's what he does this year. He just wasn't as consistent with it."

"Effort is not 100% on every snap. Content at times to lay on blockers or give half the effort. Stamina was a notable mark on sustained drives"

I haven't see much in the way of a comparison to another #90 we know well. Talentwise, I would love to get another Peppers on this team. Effortwise, I'm not sure we are ready for another Peppers. What do you guys think concerning this guys work ethic? Do you think he will sit back content with a big paycheck and fade out or only show up half the time on the field like Peppers sometimes did? Are we going to possibly draft someone that gives more after the whistle than during the play?

As hard as it was to block him in college, I wonder if he will get frustrated in the NFL when he faces pros on a weekly basis? From what I have gathered, he only has one really successful move to put on lineman "the swim move?" which he has gone to for most of his good plays. With that said, he does appear to be equally good against the run and the pass, and employs his hands really well to escape blocks and reach running backs. I hear he is useless against double teams but can open up opportunities for say Charles Johnson on the end.

I was not impressed with him. His pass rush skills are avg but his play ageist the run is down right awful. The ducks had him in the wash for most of that game and he didnt seem to read and react very well to there blocking. Pass rushing he would do fine at if he has an good DT next to him but he is going to suck in the run game.

If we absolutely have to go DT then trade down. The class is deep and we have other needs.

Green and Peterson are the only guys I could see being drafted at #1 who are also head and shoulders above everybody else at their position.

I do not want another Peppers where you need to keep making compromises. #1 picks with massive contracts shouldn't make compromises.

meh....he's the best Dlineman in this draft and there isn't a whole lot of quality after him. by far the best Dlineman to take at #1.

Including Bowers, Miller, Dareus, and Quinn who are all projected top 10 on some boards?

also Peterson and Prince are fairly close as far as talent. Green is the only real standout at his position with most mock drafts having the next best WR at spot 14.

*not that draft position is a direct account of quality

bowers is the only one who should be taken in the top 5, but i think he is more the product of just a good all around dline. the rest might be top 10 guys and von miller seems to be deservedly turning some heads, but he is more likely going as an OLB. dareus, i'm not as high on him as others are. same with quinn. i really don't like him being out of football this year.

it would be more appropriate to say that the draft is pretty top heavy in regards to dlinemen, esp. DT. i don't consider this really a deep class for much of anything aside from a few positions. it's a good thing so many underclassmen decided to enter the draft, though. would have been a really crappy draft otherwise.

Lots of comparisons to Suh as far as skill, but no one ever once questioned Suh's motor/drive.

I don't want to pay a guy #1 pay if there is any question at all about his motivation. I'd rather have Hayden giving 100% every play over Fairley half assing it every other play.

With the last in scoring offense on the other side, I have no idea why anyone would want something outside of Green to help this offense as much as possible.

    • They can’t reasonably fire a rookie head coach who was saddled with one of the worst first overall QBs of all time. And at times made said QB look decent to serviceable.  If the team was 3-11 at this point next season, fire everyone.
