With the 65th pick in the 2011 draft, the Panther select Kyle Rudolph, TE, ND

Barnidge is almost a pure pass catching end, no reason he can't be a weapon. He has the vertical speed, height, hands and can block so he's not a complete liability on blocking plays.
i agree to a point, but i really don't want us to not try and get the best prospects at every position possible. we aren't 100% sure that barnidge can be that guy any more than we can know about rudolph. the coaching staff isn't going to have a chance to work with barnidge to see if he can be that guy before the draft so, imo, they need to go into the draft acting as if that guy isn't here.

I'd be extremely shocked if Rodolph fell that far.
agreed, but we do have the earliest pick in the 3rd round. in the off chance he makes it that far, he won't go any further. people inexplicably fall quite a ways in drafts all the time. i'm not counting on it happening, but it could play out that way.

We have a ton of money from being cheap, so now is the time to use it, and sign a guy like Miller from OAK or Lewis from Jax. They could be a legit "#2 receivers" from the get go, and they are proven. Then we can use our picks on other needs.

We do have a ton of money but a lot of that will go away from signing our own guys.

If we keep the #1 pick then some of that disappears too even with a rookie cap.

Then if Rivera replaces a bunch of the scrubs with more qualified FAs it goes up even more.

We still should have enough to spend here or there.
