I know we live in a nice country when the definition of "necessities" includes cable television, internet access, and the latest/greatest cell phones.

I see it every day, and it always makes me shake my head.

When I was growing up, my mom and my best friend's mom used to work at the local water and cable offices respectively.

They had a lot of the same "problem people" and they compared notes. More often than not, they found people made a higher priority of paying the cable bill than the water bill.
