Dolphins targeting DWill

he wants to stay if we pay him.....bottom line is Carolina would be dumb to pay him what some other teams w/ a weak backfield would be willing. We saw what a healthy Stewart/Goodson could do (and that was w/ no passing attack and questionable OL play). When healthy, they were a top attack in the NFL. RBs are easy to find and plug in.....that money would be better suited in helping the pass attack.

Goodson needs to hold on to the da*n Ball!

I agree it is too early to tag but to say Kalil is more important than DeAngelo is a little skewed IMO.

not sure what you meant.. if you mean DWill is more valuable, or if he is even equal to Kalil's importance, that isn't correct at all..

DWill can walk and we'll still have a run game, we don't have a center of Kalil's magnitude..

how is it skewed?

Kalil is a top C in the NFL. They aren't exactly easy to find. THere is no one to take his place currently.

DeAngelo is great but he is a RB. The easiest position to replace and get production from. We don't have to worry about replacing him b/c we have Stewart (and he is a beast). Stewart/Goodson proved this season they could be a top attack (and that is w/ no passing game and weak OL play).

So keeping Kalil is more important than keeping DeAngelo. If you lose Kalil the team is worse than if you lose DeAngelo.

no matter how you spin it, DWill/Stewart(or Stewart/DWill if Stewart becomes the feature back) is a better combo than any other combo currently on our roster. I actually think Stewart will become the feature back because the new coaching staff has no commitment to either player.

you guys are so damn concerned about money, when we have a whopping $73 million committed to the payroll in 2011. all of you yell "JR IS CHEAP HE RELEASED ALL OUR VETERANS!!!" yet you are ready to write off one of the few play makers we have on offense, who also brings in great veteran leadership and is well liked by not only the entire locker room but the entire city.. all because you are afraid to add a few million to the payroll.

EVEN if we sign ALL our big name free agents(Kalil, Johnson, Davis, Anderson, DWill) we'd still be around the league average in total payroll.

you guys want to plug in random unknown free agents and stay far below the average payroll? fine, but don't complain about JR being cheap when we're losing 10 games a season.

You know what the difference is between Green Bay/Tampa Bay/Colts/Steelers/Patriots/etc and the Panthers? They have an established passing games that allow them to plug in below average backs and still be successful. I wouldn't be against letting him walk/trading him if we had a competent quarterback going into next season. That's not the situation though. We're going to be leaning heavily on the run game, and we're going to need all the help we can get.

Oy vey....

it's painfully obvious people read what they want to read and fail to fully comprehend valid points that are being made.. whether it's DWill, WR over DT, etc...

people here are acting like it's one or the other. if we were forced to choose between Kalil, Johnson, and Williams than sure, Williams is obviously the least important. We aren't though. We can easily afford to keep all of them and still have plenty of money left to take care of our other players.

you can say we have enough to keep them all, but if DWill wants more than 4mil a year, you let him walk..

we may have around 73 mil this year, but players salaries increase every year and it's an extremely complicated puzzle that has to fit below a certain number in 4 years.. not only that, but you want to always stay 20-30 under the cap if possible..

it's not cut and dry "we have 73 mil, so let's keep everyone and add important pieces through FA"

you let players walk when you have a backup ready to step up.. especially at RB.. if DWill wants to get paid big, hopefully that won't be with the Panthers..

if we go for Cofield or Mebane, Zack Miller, perhaps a WR, and sign all our other FA's that are more important.. you still have to keep it under 20-30 mil for the future..

it's not a black and white issue that people want to make it out to be.. there are more important factors involved than "DWILL AND STEWART, FTW!!!"

I doubt he'd get $4mil a year. He'd probably get a large signing bonus and then average $2 to $3 million a season after that.

Plus, I'm not talking about us spending up to the cap. I'm talking about spending up to the league average, which is $97 million. There was no cap this year, but there will be one when a new CBA is reached, and Pat Yasinskas is guessing that it will be around $140-$150 million ( http://espn.go.com/blog/nflnation/post/_/id/35721/nfc-south-2011-salary-cap-figures ). That is a LOT of room to work with.

I just don't like the idea of losing a great offensive player after finishing the season 32nd in offense. Just because Fox couldn't figure out a way to get all of our RB's involved in the offense doesn't mean our new coaching staff won't be able to.

Plus, if there is an 18-game season don't you want to have multiple legit running backs to fall back on?

if he signs for a decent contract, keep him. no one is saying otherwise..

but the fact remains, he isn't essential enough as a RB to our team if any Cap conflicts occur...

that's all anyone is saying..

for some reason people take that to mean, "OMGZZZZzzz, I don't get it.. DWill is my hombre and I wack off to him every night.. we MUST keep him at any cost.."
