Hurney: QB is Carolina Panthers' 'No. 1 need'

Moore went 2-1 as a starter for the Panthers last season as an undrafted rookie. But he struggled in the preseason, not leading the Panthers to a touchdown, and was expected to drop to third-string behind McCown

Expected is present tense. Like it was going 2 happen.

LOL Classic

McNabb was pretty much on the low end of things last year, and more picks than TDs? Not a good sign. And he'll be another year older next season and looking to still be paid like an elite QB. I'll pass. Likewise, Kolb had decent stats in his appearances, but again he's playing within the system.

The point is your original statement that past Reid star QBs who left Philly failed is baseless. :nonod:

There simply arent examples of that except McNabb's one year in DC. He's Reid's only QB star period, ever.

I don't want a 35 year old McNabb in Carolina, but that's not based on some misguided belief about ex Reid QBs.

As Davidson Deac nicely summed up my entire poionts>

Bottom Line: The WCO makes guys look better than they are, especially as run by a smart coach like Reid. Heck, David Carr had a great completion percentage before he came here, but again it was the system. Taking them out of that system, putting them in a conventional offense and expecting the same results has pretty much never worked, yet teams are willing to keep trying.

Garcia played for two teams with non-WCO attacks, and sucked in both. He couldn't do jack outside that system.

Feeley actually looked pretty good in 2002. Most of the analysts at the time thought the Dolphins made a good trade. But then he took the field :(

It's what happens. We always caution against taking "system quarterbacks' in the draft, but they exists in the pros too.

When you stand in the pocket like a man to make the necessary throws downfield there is an increased risk of injury.

yes of course the pocket is only where QBs get hit, no where else, especially running the ball, which jimmy did more of, even relative to their pass attempts

go ahead, keep defending this talentless scrub that you've committed your emotions too. I'll forget more reasons why he sucks than you can come up with reasons why he's good

So are you saying our only legitimate options for next year are Clausen and Pike?

pretty much yea as of right now

and no, moore doesn't have the jump on any other scheduled FA, there's an entirely new group of coaches than who he worked with (Davidson, Scherer, Fox), and unless hurney thinks his abysmal 2010 campaign that culminated in breaking his leg by himself in practice is more impressive than any other candidate well he's just gonna break therealdeal's heart

Right now, I think Clausen is no better than third string. Doesn't mean he can't get better and eventually start somewhere.

I don't think Pike has the skills to be anything in the NFL and may not make the team this year.

IMO, we need two QB's...a FA and a draft pick or 2 FA's to be our #1 and #2 QB's next year. I hope Hurney learned from last year that you cannot go into the season with Clausen as the primary back-up QB. Another injury and we are back to last year's story.

We all better get our minds around the idea that Claussen needs another shot (we're desperate) and that a year of experience and a better coaching staff and scheme hopefully help a lot.

A quality Free Agent QB coming to Carolina would be like manna from heaven but we all know we're a bunch of sinning bastards so don't hold your breath too long.

well considering 90% of the people on the huddle are fuging idiots, i would love to be in that game.

and the huddle needs to get it through their heads...we will suck ass a QB next year. be ready so you aren't too disappointed.

If most everyone here is an idiot what are you doing here....dumbing down?

My take this is Hurney is just stating the obvious and broadcasting this to let other teams know.He is saying to other teams in the draft I may still draft a QB to give him more options and the same to teams that may want to trade a qb.

I would think Hurneys career is linked to getting this right. If I were the GM I would be scared to draft a qb other than Luck(the obvious) for fear he may bust.I would also want a guy that has been sucessiful in the vertical game eliminating WCO guys.I dont need a head case eliminating Young.

My guess it will be a vet that still has something left in the tank that is a safe pick so I will have a job next year. You can bet there will be a trade or something that will have to happen to make this happen.Maybe someone like Orton,Grosman etc
