Patrick Peterson Meeting With Panthers

The Saltman

Recommended Posts

This is so funny in 2002 when I was pimping Quinten Jammer and talking about coverage sacks people were so in love with Peppers they kept saying coverge sacks were over-rated. Now people are pimping Peterson and scoffing at the dominant D-lineman. I guess things DO tend to be cyclical. :D

In fairness, the rules have changed quite a bit since then.

"Pressure vs Coverage" is one of those eternal debates that'll never be resolved.

All played in week 2 against Tampa Bay. I still remember Mike Williams taking a slant and heading up field. He split both the safeties and they didn't even touch him. Against Pittsburgh, Gamble was out but Heath Miller killed us right up the middle. Yes, normally its a linebacker assignment, but Emmanuel Sanders made Captain look silly a few times as well. Emmanuel isn't exactly a world beater either.

Lol the 2nd Tampa Bay game was the only one i missed so I'll take your word for it.

I think really it just comes down to DT. Seems like that's what always came back to bite us in the butt. NY tried to run to the outside constantly that 1st game and they couldn't do it. Their ypc average was like .3. After the half they made adjustments and we were gashed.

Peterson is slighty overrated based on his actual play, verses Alabama they Greg McElroy, Julio Jones, and Marquis Maze decimated him as Peterson allowed 9.9 yards per catch and also commited a silly pass interference penalty against Maze that gave Alabama another first down. Peterson is still a very good corner and by no means do I think he will be a bad corner but he may not be as good as many contribute him to be. He allows 58.2 yards per game which is good but I like Aaron Williams from Texas. Williams gave up a mere 38.7 yards per game at Texas. Williams is projected to go int the 2nd and if the Panthers are able to trade down and acquire a 2nd I think Williams would be a good option to replace Marshall. Texas has produced some good corner backs in the past like Aaron Ross, Quentin Jammar, Nathan Vasher, and I think they may have another one in Aaron Williams. Williams is 6-1 but only 189 lbs. However what he lacks is weight and strength he makes up for in speed with a 40 time of 4.44. Williams in my opinion would be a better addition for the Panthers based on his ability to play just as well if not better than Peterson and other players still on the board if the Panthers kept their first round pick and some how traded back into the second round or if the Panthers traded down in the first and acquired a second round pick.

So PP is faster and bigger than Williams, and by no means am I saying Williams is a scrub. In this vid PP takes it away from Julio (0:30), Maze (0:47) and AJ at (0:50). These are highlights mainly from his freshman and sophmore year. He is a sure fire thing.

Oh, I like Peterson but I just don't like him at one. As a matter of fact I really don't like anyone at one. Now if Marshall does not come back you almost have to get Peterson or Fairley based on our lack of ability at DT and CB. I honestly don't even see how Bowers or Green could possibly be an option at this point. I think the pick is either Peterson or Fairley.

That is the problem, there is no sure fire number 1. The panthers need to find some sucker who wants to move up, so they can get more picks. No matter who is taken at number 1 this year, people are going to scrutinize the pick.

I think trading down wont be a huge problem. The rookie cap should make things easier and if they really want to trade down we name the price.

One problem I see is that because we are at #1 there is not of incentive for a team to trade up unless they really want a guy or they are afraid denver will take him.

If somebody is afraid the bills will take somebody then they could trade up to the broncos for less. This is assuming the broncos want to trade down.

This is starting to become like counting the cuss words in Scarface. I think this is at least the fifth post today where a person talks about how vanilla the top of this draft is and then turns right around and says a trade isn't out of the question.

It's either worth trading for or not--it can't be lackluster top end AND teams salivating over moving up. It's wishful thinking on our part as Panthers' fan, but not realistic.

I love Pat Peterson and if we traded down and Fairley and Green were off the board I would would love to have him, but picking him with the number one is asinine considering our DT position is horrid.

My thoughts to this point (which really don't mean poo yet considering we haven't had the combine or personal workouts)

A) Trade down within the top ten + pick up second rounder + another pick

B) Fairley

C) Green

D) Peterson

pray to god we don't draft Bowers I think this guy has bust written all over him

This. Clemson players have no business even being mentioned as a #1 overall pick. The shame is they always have stellar recruitng classes.
