Rapid Reports: Panthers have interviewed Skipper

Mr. Scot

Recommended Posts

I think, from reading the Observer article, that Rivera just wanted to pick his brain. Skipper was the asst. head coach and obviously knew the run of the place. Good move by Rivera just to talk to him. I'm sure the RB's were happy to hear he was getting interviewed but from the article it doesn't look like he's coming back.

Edit - Think this says it all:

Not quite.

When they talk about "going over the scheme" they mean the way Rivera plans to run things, not the way things used to be run. He has no reason to need that info.

He might ask Skipper questions about the players, but nothing about the prior way of running things matters now.

It aint the end of the world if Skipper never returns to BofA
this is true. who know? we might even get an upgrade. skipper might be the sentimental favorite, esp. for the players, but he may not be the best coach going forward. they learned a lot from him, i'm sure, but it might be time to learn some more from another coach with just as much to offer. this could end up making them better RBs.

got to trust the new regime. so far they have done good with the hires.

Skipper was the Assistant Head Coach and RB Coach under Fox. It would be a demotion along the same lines as Ron Meeks.

Even if we offer him the job, I doubt he takes it unless nothing else is available for him.

All accounts I've heard sounds like he is looking for a equal move or better.

Fox just hired former Panthers guy Ron Milus to coach the DBs. That was the only other position Skipper had ever coached.

Skipper says he has a standing offer from Fox, but all the coordinator and position coaching slots are filled. Teams don't generally hire an assistant head coach who doesn't also do something else, so if Denver wants him, what do they do with him?
