Clausen getting back to work

Interpret it however you want, but the fact is that Clausen is under no obligation to come back to Charlotte and do anything at this point... so I think you have to give him some credit.

It's obvious there are folks on here with an anti-Clausen agenda and they will never give him credit for anything.

Not really. Seems like people are reaching here to try to find the tiniest things to praise Clausen on. Clausen is going to Charlotte to say hello to the new staff. That is probably all it is considering he is a full time student finishing a degree.

Clausen isn't going above and beyond here. He is just doing the normal thing.

Tell me, do you know for a fact that those rookie WR's never made Clausen look bad by cutting their route short or running the wrong route altogether? It's hard enough for an NFL rookie QB even if he has 3-4 experienced WR's, much less a couple that don't know anything yet. And our great running game didn't do squat until very late in the season, so he didn't get nearly as much help as your claiming.

I'm not saying the kid will be a star or anything, but for people to claim that they know for a fact that he has no chance whatsoever is pretty damn short sighted.

all I am saying is your are choosing to dwell on the fact he had a rookie WR on the field.....and ignoring the rest. He had a pro bowl WR in Steve Smith on the field w/ him. He had a great backfield. Clausen was not under this huge handicap like you are implying b/c in addition to his other playmakers around him he had a rookie on the field. His skills position players weren't bad. Better than a lot of what other QBs had.

i didn't make any such claims. I just know having a rookie on the field at WR isn't why Clausen sucked. I think you start w/ the fact he ignored and was scared to throw to the best WR on the field is what needs to be focused on. He lost Smith. Smith has hung in there and mentally stayed in w/ bad QB play before....Clausen, at least for the 2010 season, was really pointless in terms of trying to pass downfield to WRs. The rookie being out there wasn't the main reason it was Jimmy.

I was just pointing out a counterexample to your example of great arm strength. I've defended Clausen plenty of times when it warrants it, like in this thread when someone said they hoped he'd work on losing every game and when someone said he got in a bar fight.

If Clausen is named the starter with no competition brought in then I think every fan should question the front office and coaching staff and their commitment to winning. If he beats out everyone that is brought in to legitimately compete with him and earns the job then that's fine. It will show that he has improved from last year and deserves the job.

My contempt for Clausen mostly surrounds his undeserved hype throughout his life. My critique of his play has been spot on. I've said 1,000 times that it's not impossible for him to be a good QB, just that with his physical gifts he has a longer, steeper road to climb than most.

I can't complain with any of what you just stated. This is a much more fair post than the one where I came in defending Clausen to some extent. That particular post came across as vile hatred for the person and further from what is true in reality.

I, myself, am still a skeptic with Jimmy. I'm in the "jury is still out" on Clausen and not the "dump the bum" crowd. Clausen very well may not pan out, but I think it's still a bit premature. Others have their mind made up already and that's fine. I think just feel as a fan you have to cheer for the team even though you have to hold your nose at certain elements of the team and organization. Certain palyers and moves over the years have made my stomach churn, but I cheered for the team/players none-the-less.

I'm pretty damn sure those rookie WR's had something to do with it, along with the O-line not protecting particularly well, very questionable play calling, and the running game sucking for much of the time. You're acting as if Jimmy was surrounded by pro bowlers who played well every week, and that's not even close to being the case here. Everybody on this offense made mistakes, and Smitty was actually one of the worst offenders at times.

I think I'm pretty reasonable but when the homers come out for him it brings out the hater in me.

It's one of my flaws. I'm not really working on it though.

I'm not. Those crappy rookie WRs got into the endzone at a good rate when Clausen wasn't starting.....especially for a running team.

Jimmy was surrounded by Pro Bowlers, in fact he had 2 on his OL and Steve Smith has been to several. Yet all you want to do is talk about how Jimmy was doomed to fail. There is blame to go around....Jimmy gets the bulk for simply being a very bad rookie QB.

WTH difference does it make to have a couple of pro bowlers on the line if they block like dog poo for most of the season? Our TE's and RB's were getting their asses handed to them in pass pro all year as well.

again, it is the David Carr principle. Horrible QB play leads to more sacks and makes an OL worse than it really is. We saw that first hand in 2007....and it can be seen on other teams.

Matt Moore was garbage this year. BSP was garbage. Both got the WRs involved w/ a signicantly smaller number of opportunities.

Goodson whiffed on a couple blocks horrifically. You can find those type plays on just about every team in the NFL.

The Clausen excuses are just absurd. He sucked. Let's hope he gets better. But he simply did suck and plenty of that had nothing to do w/ his cast.

i just asked clausen about him coming back and if it was just meetings he was having and he said it was to learn the new playbook.

This brings up another question for me. Do players like DWill, Kalil, Davis, Moore etc get to look at the playbook since they are currently under contract but might not be in the future?

I know Moore is there every day rehabbing but do you think he gets to talk to coaches as well?
