Clausen getting back to work

Just to chime in, after seeing the spring game, I thought Renner should've been starting... I guess they owed it to TJ though.

I did too but I think Butch thought it was best to go with TJ's experience against LSU and when he played so well that earned him the starting job for good.

Clausen isn't coming to work he is coming to meet and greet. I doubt the playbook has been developed as there are still staff to be hired. JImmy won't be practicing or working out at this point with the team, it is the offseason. Guys like Davis are there because he is rehabbing. He was likely asked to come visit with the coaches and talk so they could a sense of who he was and his abilities and personality. But there aren't team workouts at this point and no team playbook to give out unless Chud whipped it out in a week or he brought one with him from San Diego.

This, and I also think they will give him some general things to work on. I'm sure they have studied film on him, and will give him some homework to do in the offseason...along with some basic concepts he can expect to be incorporated into our offense next year.

And that's the whole point behind my comment on his leadership ability. NFL Rosters are littered with guys who have physical tools, but it takes a special kind of personality to make a difference late when the game is on the line.

I agree and that's the hardest thing to grade in the QB position. You need that drive at the end of the game, that look in your eyes that says "I know what we need to do, let's get to work!". I think anyone who's played any sort of competitive game knows what I'm talking about. It's the most important thing to look for when scouting for a QB.

i have a cousin that married a hypnotherapist/exorcist. maybe i can get him to come in and help clausen improve his leadership skills, stop the panicking when under pressure, make him act older, and cast out the demons left behind from last year all at the same time. i'll call shula up and give him the guys number.

i seriously hope that shula can do something with him and chud can have an offense that clausen can't screw up and i hope that they start working on it now. it sounded like clausen was going to be working when he came. not sure a meet and greet with coaches is what i would call working.

if they are intent on going with clausen this year, it would be best for chud to work with clausen in developing the playbook. it would also be good for clausen to get some pointers from shula on what needs to be worked on in the offseason. hopefully this is part of whats going to happen when clausen gets in.

In his tweet, Clausen said "time to start grinding"... that sounds like more than a meet and greet to me.

I don't see it happening, but if Clausen goes out and improves and lights it up next season I will have a ton of fun bumping this thread.

This is why I have refused to commit either way. There just isn't enough on him in a normal situation to make a call either way. I've seen both the good and bad and just want to see if he can realise his potential.

If he does snap out his funk, then this place might just become deserted...

I think you missed the point. Whilst the team might not be getting him working, he has clearly indicated he is off to Charlotte to get to work. This could quite easily be him working out near team facilities with a personal trainer, or him meeting up with the coaching staff throughout the off-season to slowly build thing up.

Regardless of who is responsible for him getting back to work, he is still doing it.

And you guys are taking one tweet and overblowing it. There is a very limited amount of work teams can do with players in the offseason. With a lockout looming, it will be interesting to see what the offseason conditioning program looks like. Clausen could use as much of that as he can get. MY point was that this is not a big deal and just signifies that the coaching staff is going to meet with him like they did the other players since he was in California.

I hope they do set him up with a personal trainer. And I hope they set out a number of things he needs to improve upon. He can use all the work he can get. I just hope they don't put too many eggs in this basket.

He is a full time student at Notre Dame. I think he just came in for a meeting. Plus, wasn't he on twitter last night talking about finding an ice cream truck in South Bend bc he wanted ice cream.

He appears to just be missing the intangibles, something said about him before he came out of Notre Dame.

I agree and he will NEVER be a leader. It is just not in his makeup. I wish folks would just stop talking about him because it is getting old. I'm sure this coaching staff has no intentions of starting Pickles this year or any year.
