Cromartie Rips into Union Reps

I said I could live off of exactly $1 million for the rest of my life. I know these players have to pay their agents but trust me Cromartie has pocketed way more than $1 million in his career. Again my point was these guys have made enough to live on but they chose to live the high life and now that a lockout is looming they're worried cause they didn't manage their money right.

I didn't notice your age but I can assure you that I could not live out the rest of my life on $1M.

Well I'm just 20, no wife no kids so what I meant was me, myself and I could live off $1 million.

Ooops - didn't mean to give you pie. you are VERY naive to think you could live your life on $1M. No freaking way. Well maybe you have a spartan lifestyle and a hell of an investment advisor but it really isn't that much money.

Love this!

Fans saying the player should manage their money better (they should)

Other fans stating not all players make the big saleries.

Well, DUH

There is a phrase..it goes..."live with your means"

Regardless how much or how lil one makes, it is their responsibility to live with what they have.

Even the lowest paid players would never be hurting for money if they managed it correctly while living within their means.

Some people will never grasp that.

Alright guys maybe I should've used the word "survive" instead of live.

Lets not get off the subject. The average career of an NFL player is roughly 5 yrs. The AVERAGE Salary is $990,000.00 per season (got this stat off another thread) minus the signing bonus. So add 10K for a signing bonuse and you have a Million Per.

Deduct your 3% and you have 4.25 million

Doing the math for 80 yrs old. That individual who played 5 yrs of football will have roughly $72k to live off of.

ON the average most players make enough to live off of the rest of their lives. Twist and turn it anyway you want. The players are making money, and lots of it out in a big yard they call a stadium PLAYING.... PLAYING football.

And most that do leave after a year or so will probably have a good job offered to them just because of the "Former NFL Player Label"

Stick to your guns GoHeels74... You got it right.

Two seperate issues.

1) the CBA...it will eventually get done but not on Cromartie's time.

and one of my favorites

2) Piss poor planning promotes poor performance OR poor choices/planning from one does NOT create an emergency for me. That translates into, Cromartie made his bed and now has to sleep in it. I don't feel sorry for his situation at all. He's a moron.

I am constantly amazed at the people who suggest that the players are leaving the league destitute, physically incapacitated, and with no hope of self support.

There is a direct relationship to how beat up a players body is and how long they played in the NFL. Some 2nd year OT gets his ankle destroyed and ends his career is not even close to in the same boat as the 13 year vet G who cant walk on his busted knees without weekly cortisone shots. If the vet made league minimum all of that time he is looking at several million dollars in his bank and Im sorry but dude gets no sympathy from me when it comes to his financial state.

Increased income results in increased costs of living.

So you are earning somewhere between $500k-1million a season pre-tax. Would you continue living your life in the same budget way as if you were on $25,000? Or would you buy a place and settle down, start up a hobby or two and make sure your kids go to the best school you can afford?

Whilst you are fundamentally right, these athletes would have earnt several million in their careers, however that won't be sitting there once they retire. No one can predict the future, so how can they know how much to spend annually to ensure they never have to work again?

I get amused at players who claim that an 18 game schedule would cause more injuries and take an unfair toll on their bodies. These are the same players that crucified Jay Cutler on twitter for not going in an playing hurt, which could have caused further injury without even knowing the extent of his injuries. These are they same players that say that they are 'for the fans' but don't want what the fans want which is an 18 game schedule. By the way, the CFL plays an 18 game schedule, I doubt that they have any more injuries than the NFL.

Sam Bradford does and he got $60 mil. In an interview he stated the only big purchase he'd made was a nice ping pong table. No car even.

Increased income does NOT necessarily result in increased costs of living.

Alex Ovechkin still lives with his parents and relatives.

I've got buddies that are bookoo rich and you'd never know it.

But as long as we're making excuses for ignorant people making ignorant decisions...both life and financial.

Really its not that hard. After the economy went into the crapper I have been making 20k a year. I still have money to take trips though, feed, cloth myself, and pay bills. While I don't plan to make that the rest of my life I could if I had too. So really I could, with good investment no doubt I could.

So you think you could live off of about $550,000 the rest of your life? I hope you're pretty damn old. Take about 3% off of that for agents fees and you are left with roughly $530k.

No chance you make that last.

I think many fans are out of touch with reality when it comes to players salaries and the length of their careers.

Sooooo.... if you were offered a chance to play in the show, you'd turn it down because it's fiscally unsustainable?
