I think it depends on the new CBA. Players might get rid of restricted free agency in exchange for the longer season. I think we keep him regardless of the new system though.

doubt they make substantial changes to the CBA given al they have to do just to make an agreement. It will probably go back to 4 completed years instead of 6 which still makes him a restricted free agent this year.

Keep in mind that you typically don't see players grind out play time with a team for years, play really well for one year, and then jet on the team that gave them a chance. Most players have more respect than that.

I've been calling it for a while now if the CBA doesn't get done by the draft we probably will either get Bowers or Quinn (he is probably going to blow the combine up).

I think Anderson, Johnson, Goodson and Gettis were all pretty good bright spots for us.

If we sign a dt or someone other than a DE it may give CJ a stronger bargaining chip.

I foresee Hardy coming into his own opposite Johnson this year, Brown will be used for depth and situational downs. I just don't see us letting Johnson walk, and with him still on the team I don't see us wasting our first pick on a DE, probably will pick up a player for depth in later rounds though.

I don't know if taking Bowers is a sign we are not bringing back CJ. Everybody in the nfl wants pass rushers and if you can have two that would be ideal. This defense was at it's best when Rucker and Peppers or Lathon and Green were creating havoc off the edge. I would be all for a line with Bowers and Johnson.

I think if we take Bowers it will be because he is the best player availible which he indeed may be.He had a great last year but also has been great since being the number 1 HS player drafted by espn for that year.

Fairley on the other hand is not a gym rat,has a questionible work ethic and is a bit of a head case.If we were picking in the middle or late first round we would more than likely take Fairley but as the number 1 pick in the draft those work ethic questions become huge.

Bowers was also a one year wonder which concerns me.

Bowers has been ranked #1 in his class since he was a junior in high school. That my friend, is no one year wonder. That is a guy who was not only hyped, but lived up to all the hype and expectations.

Clemson has had a long line of DE's that were drafted in the first round like Gaines Adams & Phillip Merling. Bowers just had to wait his turn in a very deep stable of DE's.

That being said, although I love Greg Hardy and his potential, having Charles Johnson and Bowers controlling the ends would give us a very dangerous pass rush with the 4-3 that Rivera is going to be running.

That's not entirely accurate. He's not a superstar DE straight out of college but he's also not complete poo. I think he's gotten better every year he's played and it will be interesting, to me, to see what (if any) additional progress he makes with a different coaching staff (that is not just going through the motions?) around him.
