I don't understand OCs sometimes

Martz had a moronic play call last week in the 3rd Q, up 20 or so, of a wildcat pass where Forte threw a terrible INT. Now, on 3rd and 3, that end around was so predictable I would expect middle school LBs to see it coming.

He is pretty well respected as a play caller, but these 2 were just bad.

Yea I've never been impressed with him when he wasn't calling plays for Kurt Warner. Seems like he's lived off that success for 7-8 years now. He may still be very good 90% of the time, but I've seen a ton of bonehead playcalls from him....these were just the 2 recent ones that really hurt his team. One caused a massive comeback when he should have been able to rest starters (up 21?) and one put his team in a 4th and 4 with the clock running for no reason.

Just bad....makes no sense

Its a bad call when you do it 80% of the f***ing time.

I'm not arguing that we did not have bad play calling..but on 3rd and a mile, do you really want to go for the 1st? Wouldn't you think that a rookie QB is going to throw an INT 3 times as much as he will find a receiver for the first down?

Oh no, this problem goes back way before we had a rookie QB. And last year, after a certain point, there wasn't much to lose.

I understand frustration if we never went for it with Delhomme...he was experienced and should be trusted to take care of the ball.....but with a rookie last year, you can really destroy his confidence if you put him in positions to fail. Consider these numbers:

Peyton Manning Career stats on 3rd down and 11+ yards to go:

Rating:68.2 Att/Com:172-323 Comp%:53.3 Yards:2349 Yds/Att:7.3 Td:8 Int: 13

As frustrating as it is....its prolly smarter to run the draw or the screen and punt. The bigger problem is likely WHY IN THE WORLD IS IT 3RD AND 23?!?!

    • Did I miss something?  The people we have developing players now are not the ones we've had in the past so I don't know what the heck people are talking about when they say we are not good at developing players right now.  We only have one year to go on.  Canales likes young players or players who are on an upward trajectory, especially in FA this year.  Past QB's and what he's done with Bryce are good examples. Tershawn Wharton - 26 Tre'von Moehrig - 25 Pat Jones II - 26 Bobby Brown III - 24 Michael Jackson - 28 Jaycee Horn - 25 Tommy Tremble - 24 We missed on Milton Williams but he's 26. Everyone else we picked up are on 1 year deals.  The Panthers new front office and Canales absolutely scream developmental team. Pick 8 (stay) Tier 1 Elite - Abdul Carter, Travis Hunter and Mason Graham Tier 2 Elite - Jalon Walker, Mykel Williams, Will Johnson Trade down: There are quite a few really good players that fit us at Edge, DT, S and WR mid to late 1st and high 2nd.  Some combos that would be possible that I really like.  Imagine getting 2 of these guys by trading down. Stark, Pierce Jr, Golden, Scourton, Grant, Emmanwori, Ezeiruaku, Umanmielen, Deone Walker, Harmon and this is just off the top of my head.
    • Honestly, I couod see Pittsburgh  moving all the way to 3 to get Sanders. Their window is now and Tomlin  clock is ticking. Their roster doesn't have many holes, so picks shouldn't worry them.  Depends on the Giants mindset but they could bend them over and get future 1st since they don't have any 2nds.
    • I sometimes question why the mention height when most edge defenders are around 6'2.   Maybe it's bc he was a senior and then are nitpicking.
