Demaurice Smith going off the deep end?

Seems to me that he is anti-"labor peace". Maybe he is just trying to make a name for himself rather than do what he gets paid to do...negotiate and compromise.

This is exactly what is happening. I love how preame of GB/Chicago Goddell just laughed at the 'war' comment' He said 'No this isn't war, just business'.

He is good friends with Obama. Maybe he has the same political aspirations as Obama. This is a good way to build political clout.

I agree with SFGF.

This is a disturbed little man trying desperately to show strength in order to keep the support of his "constituents". I really do not like the guy. He has morphed from slick and seemingly partisan stuffed suit to greedy, manipulating power monger to borderline psychotic and megalomaniacal anti-hero.

I would not want his job at all but this guy has changed. The acceptance interviews differ starkly with this latest quote.

This is gonna get ugly. I partied at the house yesterday inviting friends and doing it big with the eats and drinks as if I was watching 2 of the last 3 games we are gonna have for a while.

I've said it from the beginning. DeMaurice Smith is going to ruin professional football (at least for the very near future). When you represent a group of players where 99% of them WANT TO PLAY THE GAME and all you are doing is trying to convince them otherwise...you are going to lose. The problem with this is that you can't convince a guy like Smith that he will lose and so the fight just becomes a futile shouting match until ultimately the NFL loses a season and subsequently the revenue from that season. So until the NFLPA steps up and says enough is enough, Smith will continue to make the players look like greedy, self-worshipping, spoiled athletes.

The crux of the matter is this though. The players live a life that is NOT sustainable without a paycheck. These guys drive around in 200K dollar cars. They live in multi-million dollar mansions. They wear hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of jewelry. They don't live an average life. They live an EXTRAVAGANT life and when they stop collecting that money on a weekly basis and the cars dry up for a season and they actually have to manage their funds...the work stoppage will not last. THAT is the tipping point.

As I said in another thread, this guy's motives are political. As far as I know, he's rejected every attempt to come to the negotiation table. The players are the ones who will pay for his foolish attitude unfortunately. We'll just be extremely inconvenienced by not having football for a year.
