3-4 defense

We have a good linebacker core. Consisting of 4-3 linebackers.

We are not going to scrap the whole defense to change to the 3-4.

I second that. Most people think it's all plug and play and that a 4-3 linebacker can just switch to a 3-4 and be successful. Look no furthur then what happened to Johnathan Vilma when the Jets went to a 3-4. He was constantly looking lost and out of place. Not only that but a most people think that all you need is big guy to put on the Dline. Size isn't everything the best thing they can do is absorb multiple blockers and allow the LB's to finish up the play. In order to do this that OLine must respect there skills in order to double team them.

I agree that Fox is not a 3-4 guy but lets face that might be the personal we might have next year....

Isn't wiser then use the strengths of the roster

A LBs core of Beason, Davis, O'Connor, Diggs, Johnson can play 3-4, isn't it coach duty to apply a scheme that fits to the roster strengths instead sturdly apply scheme that the team has no personel for it....

As for the draft ends, Jackson's more of a DT in our scheme, or end on a 3-4. He's a hell of an athlete, but there are numerous first-day DEs that fit right end very well - Brian Orakpo, Everette Brown, Michael Johnson, Larry English, Connor Barwin.

I don't know. Jackson, despite his size could still very well play DE here. Fox likes his linemen big, I mean Pep was around 285, and Brayton at 280.

That he became a complete player was a great bonus, but we need pass rush. A guy who can do that situationally to grow into a role would be better than a guy who situationally stops the run and can't contribute where we're worst.

yea. Only problem is the talent pool for DE isn't particularly strong this year, and sack "masters" are extremely expensive. So what if the absence of Peppers could be replaced with a rotation of people who accumulate a small sack number individually but add up to make a formidable pass rush?

asking to go to the 3-4 is just a gimmick, teams with crappy defenses tend to switch to 3-4 to make their idiot fans happy and tricking them into thinking it'll be just so much better. out of the 3-4 defense teams we have: dallas, jets, miami, browns, steelers, san diego, new england, soon GB and the ravens run both 3-4 and 4-3. Out of those defenses the only dominant ones are the ravens and steelers, and new england is usually solid, but the rest just arent that great. going to a 3-4 guarantees nothing is all im saying and we do NOT have the people or coaching mentality for it.

seriously... if john fox was given a 3-4 defense, that just means he'd only rush 3 players every play instead of 4 since we don't blitz. what would u rather have?
