3-4 defense

I am sure everybody read the article at the beginning of the web site....

I agree that Fox is not a 3-4 guy but lets face that might be the personal we might have next year....

I don't see nobody other then http://www.draftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/de/Tyson-Jackson.php that can replace Peppers in this draft (as poor mens version..).

If we can't lend him, we are in trouble.....

Isn't wiser then use the strengths of the roster

A LBs core of Beason, Davis, O'Connor, Diggs, Johnson can play 3-4, isn't it coach duty to apply a scheme that fits to the roster strengths instead sturdly apply scheme that the team has no personel for it....

I like the idea because it's different and I think change would be good. However, it won't happen because we don't really have the personnel for it. In a 3-4 scheme, the DE's are really DT's that play the end. You are supposed to have 3 heavy linemen and 4 solid linebackers. I think on our part we have the linebackers but our linemen are the issue.

Others would say the best approach is to find a system you believe in and then acquire players that fit that system.

It's a "chicken or the egg" argument we discussed in a thread a while back.

It wouldn't take much to get the lineman, we already have Kemoeatu and Brayton and they're both very good at stopping the run and Keomeatu is good at taking up blockers helping our linebackers get to the QB for pass rush situations, we can get the other defensive end either through draft or free agency.

Now the depth is the problem, besides those possible 3 there's no one behind them to fit the role so I see where you're coming from and that's why'd it probably take 2 seasons for it to work out.

yes you are all right but..

Lets say Diggs is gone, it is easier to find a 3-4 LB from the draft then to 280 DE which are really a weak group in this draft.....

We have the Nose tackle with Kameatu, Damione Lewis with 306 pound and Darwin Walker 293 are that wrong side of the scale (even Nick Hayden is not that heavy) and our other DEs Johnson ist 275 and Brayton 283 are better runs stoppers then they are pass rushers....

I don't know, I don't want to see Johnson and and Brayton as our DE in a 4-3 defense, we would have no pressure at QB at all....

    • Because Young is so historically bad that it just skews too far outside the normal deviations that perspective is easily lost. That or they just don't want to believe it.  The struggles last year would have been more about the infighting and poor roster building or idiot owner's hiring practices than with Stroud. He wouldn't have been as good but he wouldn't have been ruined here and the pressure was not Carr-esk if you take out the Young created portion from his playing style.  Dude is a young guy on a team coached by a Defensive guy building a good D but not building up the O in year 2 of his HC 1st time gig. Seems familiar... Go look at his output this year and not just some crappy Thursday night implosion game, I would take that in a second and never ever look back every time without a shred of doubt while eating 4 of those games a year with a giant smile on my face.
    • There is zero reason to sit him if he is ready to go.  Putting him on a shelf and attempting to protect does him no favors.
    • Stroud us nit the first QB thus franchise has missed on. He also won't be the last.
