Veteran QBs: Picking the right one

Just watched Deangelo Williams' livestream on Facebook where he was answering fans questions. He gave a hint on which Veteran QB the staff is looking at, but he wouldn't say who it was.. He said the QB is familiar with Chud's Offense, so that leads me to believe it's either Derek Anderson or Billy Volek.

I am not being a Fiz here, so don't take this as me lambasting your post, but with this lockout, players don't know if they are going to be on the team next season, let alone what free agent QB's the team may or may not be targeting...

Hey, I'm just stating what he said, read into it what you will. And I didn't take much credence in it, as I didn't see the need to start a new thread to shout it to the world.

Orton, Mcnabb or VY will NOT be brought in.

Our FO wants to play Cam as soon as he is ready. They are not going to bring in a guy to create a big controversy.

The QB we will bring in will be a true vet stop gap...not a guy who is looking for a long-term starter

Ahhhhh yes.... Debating who the best Veteran QB is or should be... I'm all caught up now... Here's what I've come up with...

To all of you who seem to still somehow believe that we don't already have a franchise QB in Cam Newton... It's time to wake the fug up!! Fo' real fo' real.. Whether you like him or not, whether you believe in him or not Cam Newton is the face of this franchise! He represents our Organization now so get with the damn program, or jump off our wagon and become Packers fans! We will not ever draft Andrew Luck so fuggin fogetaboutit!

To the few of you calling for Pennington... Stay current! The dude signed a deal with Fox Sports and will be taking the year off to call games while he recovers from injuries. He may call a Panthers game and get to talk about Cam and or Jimmy though.

As far as an actual vet QB coming in... Im not sure that we beed to look far at all...My vote is Matt Moore! He's shown in the past that he's capable of being the guy, and I still have faith in him. He has the camaraderie and respect of his teammates... I know because I've hung out with his team mates during THIS offseason! Funny how they did not mention JC in the convo though... I don't think anybody knows what's up with Tony Pike, but I always thought he'd be a better QB than JC... Maybe this year, we'll get to hear something about him. If all else fails we can just call up Pierre from his couch. Now if Moore goes we will need somebody... I just hope that somebody is good for us.

I never understood the pike draft after Clausen. Was he bpa?

Pike was insurance and a damn good QB... Now why he didn't get to play seems to be the million dollar question... They never even really said his name. I always told all my boys that Pike would end up replacing Clausen but it never happened. I personally think that Pike is a better QB. I may be wrong. It seems I may be, but I still think Pike is better. Why didnt he get his shot last year? I'd love to know... Either way, if we can keep our QB's we have I think we'll be fine. If Moore goes, then we'll need a vet to come in and replace him.

It brings you back to the notion that has been floated here for a few months that we will bring in a veteran who is currently a back-up who might want to start for a season or two at most and serve in a mentoring role. Someone like Volek or Derek Anderson closer to the end of their careers than the beginning. Someone valued for what he knows and how he prepares more than physical talent or athletic ability. Perhaps just as suggested earlier, Rivera's version of Rodney Peete. A guy who can start and win you some games, but eventually got replaced by a better option. This time it is Cam Newton instead of Jake Delhomme,

Who else fits the bill when considering Chud, Rivera, and Shula past stops and QBs involved in those systems as a backup?

You make it sound like keeping Moore is some sort of consolation prize...

Matty Ice is dat deal<-----no homo!

Why would you need a vet when you have the stronger, more accurate (though noticeably slower) version of Michael Vick under center?

Yeah, I agree. I followed pike in Cincinnati, he was impressive. I rather would have gotten a WR at #2 then pike instead of Clausen. With the Cam pick, the Pike pick is asenine.

My goodness, have you ever heard of a good back-up? We need someone to be their and take hold of this offense when Cam is hurt.
