And all the rookies were concentrated in the passing game.

That being said, Fox and company never showed much skill at developing wide receivers, or anything related to the passing game. Which is why, imo the jury is still out on Edwards and Clausen.

I might be wrong but I think Fox was talking about working in and practicing Wildcat formations w/ AE. Fox said there wasn't enough time in practice to spend time trying to working a new wildcat package b/c Clausen and the standard offense had so much work to do. Which I think did make some sense.

Now why he didn't get more reps in a wasted year late as a returner or WR? I don't know. Impossible to predict what AE will be...the only time we saw him was preseason and he wasn't in NFL WR shape and was learning the new spots.

I can't find it. The closest I can is this quote about getting him playing time as QB (Gantt probably asked about it ), but the one I am thinking of was more relative to why he was inactive on a game day, and I can't seem to find where it was.

Anyway, here's the one I did find, which at least stresses the problems of the normal offense:

As much as you get tempted, it's hard to do all of that in a week's work with the way we are executing at this point, in particular in the passing game."

You have to be disappointed AE didn't contribute, but it's too early to rule him out. When your team barely ever touches 3 WR sets, let alone 4, any WR outside of our first three has trouble cracking the lineup.

I was thinking of a slightly different quote that had to do with why he wasn't active at WR one week. I may be wrong though, I can't find it.

edit: Could have sworn it was part of this quote when I saw the video of it, but the Observer didn't report it so I must be hallucinating. God knows if there was anything that made Edwards look slightly less bad, Gantt would be all over it:

We come up with nicknames for everyone, whether or not they are a Panther. Maybe he'll get a better nickname when he ACTUALLY proves he can play in the NFL.

fair enough. I think he will do better than you guys think. I think it was a terrible pick though since he would have been there in the later rounds. I also would like to give him a shot at QB, I think he has a good enough arm and his release has to be higher than Clausens. And no I did not go to ASU and I have never seen the kid play football.
